MBABANE - A night out with friends ended up being a tragic one for Pachanga!

This was on Wednesday night at Mgababa Bar, Msunduza in Mbabane where the Eswatini renowned tribal music artist Pachanga Matsenjwa was a victim of a robbery after she was allegedly hit with a gun muzzle on the head.
Weeping in pain during an interview at Mgababa in her house, Matsenjwa told this journalist that it all happened unexpectedly while she was enjoying drinks at the bar with her friends at around 11:30pm.
“It was an awesome night with my friends as we were enjoying our drinks by the shops.

“As per norm, we decided to walk down to the bar to have more drinks as I love playing the jukebox there. I love music,” narrated Matsenjwa.
She said while in the outside area of the bar chatting with another set of friends, she was allegedly attacked by two gunmen.
“One of them hit my shoulder so hard with a gun and it came as a surprise as we did not see them coming,” she said.

Screamed

She continued narrating that as she screamed for help, the other gunmen hit her in the face with claps and finally smashed with a gun muzzle on the forehead and her she bled profusely. “The gun made a shot through the roof when he hit me with it. This is when I decided to lay on the floor and play dead so they could stop attacking me,” she said.

Matsenjwa said the gunmen proceeded to the inside  of the bar after attacking her and she was not sure what happened inside as she was still hurt from the attack and confused by the gunshot.
After the robbers had left the bar, Matsenjwa was accompanied home by some of the patrons of the bar where her partner in music and smilophone music instrument designer Smiles Makama sent her to hospital. Matsenjwa stays less than 100 metres away from Mgababa Bar with Makama.

Makama, who was also present when Matsenjwa was narrating the nerve-wracking incident, said he was home when Matsenjwa was allegedly attacked.
“I heard loud knocks and when I opened the door, Pachanga was bleeding profusely, in the company of a man I knew. In a cloud of confusion as I was still sleepy, I put a cloth on her forehead for the bleeding to stop,” said Makama.
Makama said he then rushed to the scene where police were already doing their investigations.

“Unfortunately, the police were busy making statement to take us to the hospital promptly so we called a friend who stays about four kilometres away and he took us to the hospital,” said Makama.
Matsenjwa was treated and discharged and when this journalist left her home, she was going to the hospital for a second check-up. The Mgababa Bar bar lady, whose identity will not be revealed because of security reasons, confirmed the robbery by the two gunmen.

She said she was about to lock the bar when the gunmen pounced on her and other patrons.
“They shoved me inside the bar while they were harassing patrons. Some of them were seriously injured such that they bled,” said the bar lady.

She said one of the people who were allegedly brutally hurt was Samkeliso, the owner of the bar. He was allegedly hurt when the gunmen were demanding money from the till.
According to the bar lady, the only money the gunmen got during the robbery was E1 000.

Robbing

“That is the only money that we had in the till,” she said. She also said the gunmen drove off in a runaway car after allegedly robbing the bar.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the robbery at the bar. She highlighted that no patron was shot at; however, there were gunshots that were fired.
“We cannot, for now, conclude how many patrons were hurt but none is dead. We are still doing investigations on the matter,” said Vilakati.

She also said there were no arrests made in connection with the robbery.
Meanwhile, Matsenjwa met her ordeal after reviving her music career after being dormant for many years.
She rekindled her career with a concert themed ‘Pachanga and Friends’, which was in March. It is in this show where she debuted her song ‘Etinkhomeni’.

After this concert, Matsenjwa performed at this year’s MTN BUSHFIRE at the Firefly Stage as a DJ where she was dishing out reggae sounds.
