MBABANE – The art space in Eswatini is constantly evolving to embrace artists of all spheres.
Felenkhosini Cembelescalaba Ndzinisa (22) is one young artist, who stands to uplift a genre that has had its spotlight dimmed in recent years.

He sings and promotes the traditional music genre also known as ‘maskandi’. He started his singing as a young teenage boy back in 2012 at the age of 16. Ndzinisa is also a traditional healer (inyanga)

Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, Cembelescalaba said his musical journey began with a dream where his maternal grandfather visited him and gave him three things, which were a guitar, money and a pair of trousers.

“While receiving these three things, my grandfather shook my hand and left me with a mark on the hand which is quite visible even today,” said Cembelescalaba.

“My grandfather instructed me to look for a man with dreadlocks by the name Mcwayizeni Ntshangase who would help me with my music career,” he said.

He revealed that he pursued his calling by going to Mozambique where he was initiated and became a traditional healer.
Regarding his growth aspirations in his musical career, he sought the assistance of Mshikishi Mndzebele a renowned maskandi artist in Eswatini whom he worked with for a period of over three months.

In his calling, he has further assisted people from as far as Cameroon, which is something that has amazed him.
He believed that this was a unique experience for a young man like him.
He further highlighted that in his career, he had encountered so many challenges including that of people in his village using women to seduce him so that he may fall from grace.

However, through the powers vested in him by the ancestors, he has been able to rid himself of those bad experiences.
He aspires to be of impact not only to his family members but also the less privileged in his village and around the country which is something he has prepared to start in the year 2020.

Through his music he aspires to inspire the youth to acquire things in the most legal and respectable way.

The Entertainment Desk also made efforts to get in touch with established maskandi artist Mshikishi to substantiate the supposed collaboration he made with Cembelescalaba and he did indeed attest to that they had worked together however, it was for a short period of time where he was a backing dancer.
Cembelescalaba has plans to release a single on November 25 which will be a form of appreciation to artists that have passed on who have inspired the youth through music.
