MBABANE - Another local face will be seen on South African screens soon! Following in the footsteps of Eswatini-born actress Amanda du Pont, who acts on SABC 1 drama Skeem Saam, Nomahlubi Dlamini has bagged a lead role on Moja Love’s new show ‘The Thread’.

Moja Love is a South African digital satellite television general entertainment channel produced by Siyaya Media Network for DStv and it airs on channel 157. It is a female-skewed channel geared towards content that showcases various forms of love.

‘The Thread’ is a drama that is still being shot and will start airing next year.
The liSwati actress was endorsed as one of the cast members of this drama on Monday and she started shooting yesterday.
Talking to this journalist before leaving for Johannesburg, South Africa for the shoot, Dlamini confirmed that she got one of the main roles of the drama.
Due to confidentiality clauses in her contract, Dlamini could not reveal how much she was going to earn.

Also, she could not reveal the exact role she was going to play.
Dlamini got this role through Becky Casting, a modelling and acting recruitment agency based in South Africa.

Recruit

The agency recently signed a partnership with the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture and in their partnership, they were given the permission to recruit aspiring Eswatini models and actors to pursue their careers in South Africa if recruited for a role.
Dlamini said she was over the moon about the opportunity which landed on her lap.

“I joined Beck Casting in July. I was starting to lose hope as I was not getting any acting role,” she said.
She said she got this role when she was least expecting it.

“This is the start of a bright future for me. I am optimistic that I will place Eswatini on the map with this role,” she said.
Dlamini is the daughter of the late former Member of Parliament Majahebutimba Dlamini of Lobamba Lomdzala. She went to St Anne’s Primary School and completed at St Francis High School in Mbabane.

She graduated from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology this year.
Becky Castings Director Bekezile Dube confirmed Dlamini’s new role in ‘The Thread’.

“I am optimistic that more aspiring actors like Nomahlubi will be lucky these days as the siSwati language has become popular with South African dramas,” said Dube.

Dlamini will not be the first liSwati to appear on South African screens.

Commercials

Other emaSwati who have been recently seen on South African screens are Nolwazi ‘Snowee’ Simelane on Netflix series ‘Queen Sono’, Coralee Vilakati was spotted on Generations: The Legacy and Thando ‘Starring’ Mzamo has been on soccer commercials.

Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture CEO Stanley Dlamini could not be reached for comment by the time we went to print as his phone rang unanswered.
