MBABANE – Every well planned deed has a positive finish.

The community of Nyakeni started off the year on a high note with local personality and motivational speaker Sthembiso M. Dlamini on the front line of organizing an event alongside the My Sister’s Keeper organization set to motivate and encourage the school going girls of Nyakeni Community. The build up to the event which started in December 2019 attracted quite a large number of people from the local community who showed up to support the initiative. The initiative was named the ‘Pad a Nyakeni School Going Girl’ where sanitary towels for young girls were distributed to the administrators of Salukazi, Seven Holy Founders as well as Malunge Primary Schools.

Initiative

Dlamini revealed that the reason to partake in this initiative was because every school going child deserved to be in school and menstrual periods should not be a reason a child cannot go to school. He also said it was important that their self-esteem was uplifted in this way for a prolonged education. The event was also supported by the Nyakeni Inkhundla as well as Forum for African Women Educationalists Swaziland FAWESWA, Breast Cancer Network, Sister’s Keeper, Hope Met, and Youth Loving with Positive.

Dlamini also mentioned that their campaign was not exclusive to only that could not afford the sanitary towels but also was for everyone. He revealed that this was a first of its kind event in their community and further thanked thiose that supported the initiative. Dlamini also said it would not be the last as well as they were still welcoming more sanitary towels from anyone who would like to support the initiative. Efforts to reach the Indvuna Yenkhundla Knowledge Matsenjwa proved futile as his phone rang unanswered until the time of going to print. The event was held on Saturday at the Nyakeni Roman Catholic Church.
