MBABANE – It’s all about house music!

Local house artist and vocalist Canny Deep has managed to achieve a rare feat on the Eswatini Top 20 chart show; that of clinching the number one position with a debut single. According to the chart show presenters, very few artists have managed to score the top spot on their maiden releases. Canny Deep’s debut song ‘Toti toti’ was released late 2019 and gradually moved up the charts over the past nine weeks to land at number one this past Friday. The song was co-produced by Onasis Kleen and Mr Kangaroo.

“It’s really a double celebration for the young house vocalist, given the coincidence of reaching the number one spot with song ‘Toti toti’ on the same day he debuts a follow up single ‘2020’ on the charts,” said Bongani ‘DJ Tizalami’ Dube, chart show presenter. Canny Deep’s newest single ‘2020’, which is dubbed an extension of the number one single ‘Toti toti’, debuted the charts at number 20, alongside three other new entries: ‘Wena’ by A2Z Fusion, ‘Jikisa’ by Carrency, and ‘Godzilla’ by Eminem at number 19, 18, and 17 respectively. “These are what we call ‘power entries’, as they heat up the competition on the charts, which we continue to model as a benchmark for excellence, and we can only wish Eswatini artists all the best as they compete with international artists neck and neck,” proclaimed Lindelwa ‘Lindz’ Mafa, chart show host.

Receded

Meanwhile, two-week number one ‘Eish’ by Oskido featuring Monique Bingham receded one place to number two, as Bongo Maffin maintained the third position with ‘One Africa’, a song that features Oskido and Dr Moruti. The highest climber of the week was Dj Maphorisa with his runaway hit ‘Phoyisa’, which garnered enough airplay on various regional and local stations to move eight places up to number eight from 16. The Eswatini Top 20 chart show, which features the top trending songs scanned from various stations in the region, plays on EBIS2 on Thursdays at 4pm and Fridays at 8pm.
