BERLIN OPERA ACADEMY ENROLLS LWAZI

MBABANE - The art of opera in Berlin has called upon Eswatini talent!

Eswatini-born internationally acclaimed opera singer Lwazi Dlamini has secured a spot in one of the opera schools in Berlin.  He will be enrolling with Berlin Opera Academy next year for a role study of a play dubbed ‘Gianni Schicchi’.

This was revealed by Dlamini in an interview with the Entertainment Desk.

Berlin Opera Academy is the premier European opera training programme providing practical professional instructions to emerging artists in the most operatically important city in the world.

Dlamini shared that he was recognised through an online competition dubbed ‘Voices of South Africa’, which was hosted on Facebook earlier this year. He went on to express his excitement. 

 “I was lucky to be given a role where I will gain a lot of experience working with great singers. This opportunity will also help me generate income. The current COVID-19 has affected us a lot and this opportunity will open doors for me as I hoist the country’s flag,” he said. 

Dlamini will be taught by expects in the opera music the likes of Mark Sampson, who is an artistic director, voice teacher, bass in German ‘A’ houses, founder of several successful summer academies, Rebecca Jo Loeb, who is an instructor, world-renowned mezzo-soprano at the MET, Opéra National de Paris,  Hamburgische Staatsoper and  Ricardo Tamura, who is an instructor, Brazilian tenor, singing in the German Opera system and currently singing lead roles at the MET to name a few.

It is worth noting that Dlamini will not be the first liSwati to hoist the country’s flag as the likes of Thando Zwane, who  excelled at the ‘Les Azuriales Opera International 2019 Opera Singing Competition’ in France where he scooped the ‘Audience Prize’. 

He also bagged in a job at Italy.Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCMA) Chairperson Sihle Gumbi said these news were great for the whole of Eswatini. “The choral music fraternity is very proud of Lwazi. We would also like to congratulate and share that we will support him,” said Gumbi.
