MBABANE – In an unexpected twist, The Spotlight judges made another save this past weekend.

In their action, they decided to keep Zanoxolo Maseko’s light shining on The Spotlight after she was eliminated.

Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for Siyanda Dlamini who had been saved last week, Mfanawenkhosi Dlamini, Siphesihle Qwabe, Londiwe Kunene and Lucy-Kate Smith.

This decision was based on their last performance and the 27 680 votes that came from emaSwati last week.

After The Spotlight host, Thamsanqa ‘KrTC’ Sibandze had announced the results, just before he invited the Top 10 to come up on stage for their performance, the judges asked him to hold it right there.

Khulekani ‘Karly B’ Mamba made the announcement to save Zanoxolo on behalf of the judges.

“The judges have deliberated and decided to keep Zanoxolo’s light shining on The Spotlight,” he said.

Maseko, who was probably already packing up and preparing to leave backstage, was recalled to the stage and the host relayed the judges’ decision to her.

She was visibly stunned and further shed tears of joy. She sincerely thanked the judges for giving her a second chance to compete for the lucrative prize package of The Spotlight Season 2.

“I can assure you that I am going to redeem myself in today’s performance,” she shyly stated, still visibly surprised.

The rules of the competition allow judges to have three saves for the duration of the competition.

This means that, they are now only left with one save. The judges save remarkable contestants that they believe, if given another chance, could be great contenders for Eswatini’s next superstar.

This does not, however, mean that eliminated contestants are not talented.

“If you get eliminated on the show, it is not a reflection on your talent; it just means that there is somebody who wanted it more than you,” said ‘KrTC.’

Last weekend, the resident judges were joined by gospel superstar and ‘Baba Siyabonga’ hitmaker, Banele Dlamini.

The Top 11 performances were appropriate for a late Sunday show as contestants sang inspirational gospel tunes that undoubtedly warmed and lifted the spirits of viewers.

This past weekend’s show is available on Eswatini TV, MTN Eswatini YouTube channels and YelloHub.

MTN Senior Manager Consumer, Meshack Maseko, dearly thanked emaswati for standing behind contestants through voting.

record

“It is very encouraging to note that we broke last week’s voting record of 23 000 votes. With the voting lines open for the Top 11, it is time for Eswatini to decide who makes it to the next round. So, we encourage emaswati to go all out for the favorites by voting,” he said.

Maseko reminded emaSwati that voting has been made easier through bulk voting, “To vote, dial *7768# and follow the prompts or visit Y’elloHub: https://www.yellohub.co.sz/thespotlight/contestants/, click Vote 4 Me on the contestant you wish to vote for and follow the prompts.”

Maseko said voters stand a chance to win a share of E50 000 worth of exciting prizes.

“Let us keep the votes coming and break the existing record of 27 680 votes.”

The Top 11 voting window will close on Friday at 3:00pm.

The winner of The Spotlight Season 2 will drive home a brand new Kia Picanto; get a recording deal, Huawei P40 range, Nandos vouchers, social media marketing management and a whole year’s bragging rights.

The Spotlight is powered by MTN Eswatini in partnership with Eswatini TV, Huawei, Destiny Group, TBWA\Yati and Nandos.
