MBABANE – It is on. The COVID-19 pandemic has given a serious challenge to sporting and arts associations as well as many event organisers to think of creative ways to keep their sectors alive during the pandemic.

Choral music is one activity that has not been spared from the wrath of this pandemic.

Despite all that, Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCMA) will be hosting solo competitions.

This was confirmed by ENCMA’s  Chairperson Sihle Gumbi in an interview with this publication.

Competitions

He said this year’s competitions would be for solo local artists.

“People can participate in the competition aimed at encouraging local talent and developing it to its full potential through networks in the industry,” he said.

Interested individuals are encouraged to send a video of themselves presenting their acts.

“The recording must open with the artists mentioning their name, voice part and song title,” he said.

He went on to share that interested candidates can send their recordings via WhatsApp to 7928 5336 or send an email at eswatinincma@gmail.com.

The opening date of the auditions is set for December 17 and the closing date will be on December 27, 2020.

Registration

“As per norm, we do not require any registration fee, candidates are required to send a video of not more than two minutes.

“We will be having judges that will decide who moves on to the next stage,” he explained.

He also shared why they decided to go for solo competitions and assured the nation that they will be adhering to all COVID-19 regulations

“We usually have different categories which include choirs and collaborations. The current COVID-19 has halted so many plans hence we decided to go with the solo category.

“This category will allow us to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations as we will be having on contestants per session on stage,” he said.

It is worth noting that this will be the first local choral activity ever since the PM eased the entertainment sector.

Excited

“We would like to thank the government for considering the entertainment sector. Choral is big locally and we are excited to be hosting competitions again, we will be adhering to all health precautions, “he added.

Gumbi went on to share that the finale will be hosted early next year.

“Our finale will be held next year as the closing date of the auditions is December 27.  We would also like to urge choristers to participate to make this event a success,” he added.

Prizes will soon be shared on this publication.
