MBABANE – Fun lovers were left disappointed after the police shut down the Monday Night Therapy sessions.

This happened at XChange Lounge & Shisanyama in Ngwane Park on Monday after the show drew over 100 people that were hungry for fun. Worth noting is that this was the first show which was hosted in the country after lockdown restrictions were imposed by government. Having started at 2pm, the show later attracted throngs of emaSwati across the country that were dressed to the nines in anticipation of ‘the first groove show’ after over a year as events were not permitted to operate. At around 6pm, some patrons had already parked their vehicles outside and some had flocked just outside the venue in anticipation to get their groove on.

Flocking

According to impeccable sources, who were found just outside the renowned establishment on the day of the event, the show was shut down abruptly by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) at around 6pm. It was said this was the time when people were now flocking the venue and they had surpassed the regulated amount of people allowed according to government’s revised restrictions following the lifting of the ban in the arts sector. Asked to comment on the events that led to the abrupt closure of the show, one of the event organisers, KB Da DJ said everything had went smoothly and according to plan as people started gracing the event just after 2pm. He further divulged that the establishment had no certificate to host the show.

“We are happy that government has finally opened the industry once more, but we feel as if the restrictions are limiting to a certain extent. We would like to urge the government to further ease the restrictions that are currently in place as we earn a living from the shows we host and our families depend on us,” he said. KB Da DJ said the downside of this was when the police came in and forced them to pack everything they had set up.

Disclosed

Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Dlamini disclosed that the council had a good relationship with Manzini Police and said they (police) would be engaged further on the matter. He said this would include the venue owner and event organisers. He responded by saying this after being asked on what the repercussions were for event organisers who breached the stipulated guidelines as announced by government last week where a phased reopening of the arts industry would take effect as of Monday.
