HOLY GRAIL RELEASES COVID-19 MIXTAPE
MBABANE – Local up and coming hip hop group Holy Grail from Siteki has released a mixtape inspired by the coronavirus pandemic.
The group comprises three rappers, who are Sinalo Gamedze AKA Sg_Trey, Mcebisi Esquire Motsa whose stage name is ESQ and Simiso Gift Maseko, who goes by KidSeth. The mixtape consists of 12 tracks. Speaking to one of the members of the group Mcebisi Motsa, he said the mixtape catered to fans of the hip-hop/rap and trap genres. “It is actually an awareness project that serves to educate people about the coronavirus. Not only will the tracks educate music lovers but, they will also entertain them since not every track in the mixtape is about the pandemic, some are freestyles and some are just songs,” he said. Motsa revealed that they felt the need to release the tape because people had been scared, bored and had a lot of questions. He said the mixtape addressed most of the issues which have been associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Motsa mentioned that he was aware that people were scared and some were not well informed about how to deal with the coronavirus.
active
“Most of our youth, who are highly active people, are forced to be in confined spaces with very little to carry them through the day. So the mixtape addresses more than one issue through entertainment, especially the hip-hop/rap and trap musical genres,” he added. The mixtape was released on multiple digital platforms such as Facebook, Soundcloud, Audiomack, Reverbnation, Mediafire as well as YouTube for all streaming and download purposes. “We have been in the industry for a period of about 5 years and back then the group name was Teamseth. Due to conflict we split up and we regrouped as Holy Grail about a year ago,” he said. The group was formed in 2015 while the rappers were in High School until last year when the group split up due to differences. Motsa highlighted that they were however able to regroup when they enrolled into university and rebranded to Holy Grail.
sacrifice
“We managed to sacrifice our allowance for the past year which is how we were able to buy studio equipment from South Africa and became an independent label,” he said. He concluded by saying their group was different from others because they were their own producers, mastering engineers and recorded as well as distributed their music without external assistance.
He highlighted that they performed multiple genres including dancehall, hip-hop, RnB, rap and trap making them highly versatile in this industry.
