MBABANE – A noble cause aimed at elevating artists’ music careers on technical and administrative issues.

This best describes a workshop that will be hosted by the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) on May 29, 2020. It is worth noting that the workshop will coincide with the Holy Ghost Party Festival (HGPF) as it will be hosted during the day prior to the main event which will commence in the evening at 6pm. The show is widely considered as one of the biggest calendar events since it hosts renowned and established gospel artists from the SADC region. The main act of the night will be one of South Africa’s best-selling gospel artists, Xolly Mncwango.  Some of the local acts that will be performing on the day include Siphiwo Ndlangamandla and Nothando Dlamini and Ayanda Shange. The Council’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Dlamini asserted that the workshop was necessitated by the fact that local artists needed to be equipped with the know-how on ways to manage the technical and administrative procedures to follow when preparing for a show.

Artists

“We want our local artists to learn how to manage every detail that a show requires in order to be successful and be of an international standard.  ” he mentioned. He went on to add that the renowned artists who will be performing at the show will be there during the workshop since they had been prominent amidst the COVID-19 period which meant they had a good approach on marketing their brands on social media and so, they will be passing on this experience to local acts. He, however, stated that due to current restrictions on the number of people that can attend, which is 100, certain artists in the council’s database would be invited so as to adhere to the gathering protocols currently in place.“There are over 100 artists in the country and so we cannot be able to cater for every artist in this regard,” he said.

Award-winning gospel artist Linda Dlamini stated that this was a good initiative by the Council as the workshop would play a role in assisting local artists with their craft. He said in most cases, workshops were done using theory based programmes but this one would be different as it would also include the physical part of music education. “We will be demonstrating using a live sound setup too on how to handle stage presentation as an artist including how to do a sound check prior to a show and how to communicate with your audience,” he said. He went on to say that he hoped this knowledge that would be imparted to artists would help in expanding their music understanding. Artists that will be gracing the workshop include headlining acts for the HGPF Xolly Mncwango, Ayanda Shange from Joyous Celebration and the host for the show, Linda Dlamini.
