MODELLING HOUSE TO HOST FASHION SHOW - CHESTER
MBABANE - ‘We cannot wait for the dust to settle.’
That was the message shared by the founder of a local modelling agency Linda Chester, called The Rhythm. The modelling house will be hosting fashion shows inviting designers from different countries. Speaking to the publication, Chester said the purpose of the show was to help raise funds for the less privileged. “We are planning on having a series of fashion shows that will help us give back to the less fortunate. We want to provide school uniform to children from rural areas through the shows,” he said.
Scale
He went on to share how the political unrest has affected people. He said the economy of the country may take time to bounce back to its normal state. “We are not a developed country yet; the political unrest has caused a setback. Some parents lost their jobs and some businesses were vandalised. It will take time for the situation to go back to normal,” he said. It is worth noting that the fashion show will not be their first event. The modelling house has successfully hosted a number of shows with designers from The Southern African Development Community (SADC). “We have hosted a number of shows, the last show was supported by local initiatives and designers from the SADC region. Through that show, designers were able to get more opportunities and models got the exposure they needed,” he said. Chester also mentioned how the current COVID-19 has halted the entertainment scene. He said the modelling industry was not spared as they also had to tap into the digital world.
Havoc
“For the past 16 months, the current pandemic has really caused havoc but we are grateful that it has forced us to wear our creative caps and tap into the digital world. Early his year, we were able to host an online fashion show and also launch our new brand,” he explained. He went on to urge stakeholders and interested initiatives to support their vision. “So many people have been affected, through this initiative and with the support from the public we can help the less privileged. As a modelling house we are aware of the political change that some are advocating for at the same time we all need to be positive and hope for the better,” he added.
Agency
It is worth noting that the agency has currently closed due to the political unrest. Models were urged to exercise while at home. “We have cancelled all bookings and plans of the fashion week have been put on hold. Models have been asked to stay home until the dust settles. We would also like to encourage all models in the country to be safe and practice home body training to keep their bodies in shape,” he said.
