LUTION TO REPRESENT ESWATINI IN RADIO DAYS AFRICA 2021
MBABANE – Local radio personality and hip-hop heavyweight, Lution will be representing the country at this year’s Radio Days Africa conference.
A few might know him as Mzwandile Nxumalo but thousands are familiar with the name Lution. The ‘Quentin Tarantino’ hit-maker will once again shine on the international stage as he was selected to partake in one of the biggest radio conferences in Africa. Radio Days Africa is held on an annual basis and is presented by the Wits Radio Academy under the auspices of the Department of Journalism at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Engagement
According to the conference’s website, Radio Days Africa aims to stimulate learning, engagement, conversation and thinking around the various aspects of the radio business, in an African context. As a partner event to Radio Days Europe, Radio Days Africa also gains insight into international trends. In 2020, the first digital version of Radio Days Africa attracted 4 000 attendees to the 20 sessions that featured more than 60 speakers. A key event for radio practitioners across Africa, the 12th edition of the conference will again be taking place in the virtual sphere. With the rapidly changing face of media platforms, audio creation and consumption enjoying renewed attention, the theme for Radio Days 2021 is “Audio Amplified”. Under this banner, the conference will focus on the growth of audio consumption in a multi-platform environment. Other topics that will be discussed include COVID, public broadcasting, future opportunities and current challenges, particularly in research and revenue. The programme also features Fire Side conversations with influential radio personalities and knowledge sharing from across the continent through sessions such as Ask the Programme Manager, Podcasting 101 Master Class, 60 Ideas in 60 Minutes, Creating a Brand Story Using Audio and more.
Conference
Visibly elated at being selected to be a part of the conference, Lution said the conference would be for a period of two weeks. “Basically we will be sharing expert opinions in our different spheres of radio just to get the state of radio in Africa. Only four countries will take part in the Radio Hour which is Eswatini, Nigeria, Botswana and Zambia,” he said. He went on to add that he was humbled at being recognised by a platform of that magnitude. He stated that he was previously part of the three conferences that were held in the past three years physically but this year, he would be partaking virtually. “More than anything, I would like to thank Tim Zunckel for having that constant sharing of knowledge. I have a huge appetite to learn and I am more than happy to share what I know so far in terms of expertise in the radio fraternity,” he asserted.
