ESWATINI NOT A LAUNCHING PAD FOR ARTISTS
MBABANE - Meanwhile with instances like Unclewaffles, Adrienne Foo and a number of other artists that were recognised after they went international, Eswatini has not been a launching pad for local artists.
When interviewed about these sentiments the Ministry of Sports and Culture said matters like this were not at their level. The question posed to the ministry was the case of a liSwati artist going international trailblazing if put in entertainment terms. Waffles was basically another artist putting the entertainment industry and the country at large by hosting the flag.
The ministry was asked if they had anything to say with regards to that, and how more and more Swati artists go international in response Zondi said for now, the relevant office to comment on this was the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC). When reached for a comment ENCAC CEO Stanley Dlamini said their strategy as ENCAC was not only to compete in their spaces but to ensure that artists perform and present the country in world stages and make a case for creative sectors in international markets.
“Our spaces and platforms are not enough to promote and present local talent and this is due to many factors such as professionalism and our population inferiority. Most big countries launch artists from small countries,” said Dlamini during an interview.
