MBABANE – Female DJ Unclewaffles real name  Lungelihle Zwane broke the Internet on Saturday and the better part of yesterday when she shared a video titled ‘people are burning’ from a recent gig she had.

The young disk jockey was playing outside the country where she saw a crowd of over 3000 eating from the palm of her hand. In the 27 seconds video she is seen leaving her set and engaging with her fans in formative dance moves.  In less than an hour the video had garnered over 100 000 views from people across the world. When this report was compiled the video had gone over a million views both on Twitter and Instagram where it was initially posted. The video was also shared by social media users from across the world.

Connected

What stood out from the video apart from the artist’s rock star outfit was the way she connected with the crowd. Unclewaffles’s facial expressions when dancing left everyone in awe. She moved chronologically with the fun lovers as if they all had time to practice before the night show. Clad in a black cropped top and baggy jeans, the DJ looked like a member of the once famous TLC group. Ready to rock the artist was armored up with barely there make-up and black headsets.  As soon as the video started collecting numbers and circulated on the Internet people were already sharing it and wondering who Unclewaffles was.

Despite the large reaction to her video, the humbled superstar took time to interact with people especially on twitter and forwarded her gratitude to them for watching the video. South African industry players such as Black wendy, Major League Djs, Amapiano vocalist Cooper Pabi, Mihlali Ndamase, Kay Yarms and DBN Gogo were some of the industry people that commended Waffles for being in tune with the crowd and actually praised the video.

People from as far as the United Kingdom and Nigeria were seen sharing the video, further praising Waffles for originality and ethnicity in the 27 seconds clip.
“When are you coming to Nigeria? I want to witness your vibes, energy and dancing skills.  I’m a fan now,” said one twitter user. Other comments were along the lines of “ can I faint here, continue with this energy we need and love it,” commented DBN Gogo to the video.

Meanwhile, when the attention and praise of the video Unclewaffles actually took time to let people know that she was a liSwati. This was after a number of people on the Internet assumed she was South African and started commenting with South African flags, as if to say she was from SA.  In one of her tweets the young DJ posted that she was Swati “Clarity, I’m Swati,” read the tweet from the DJ. With everything going on in the country, unrest that has culminated in the burning of property and lack of transport, people were able to put aside the chat and focus on waffles’ moment  of shine.

One twitter user was seen saying that Saturday was definitely an ‘Unclewaffles international day’ and they did not mind celebrating her despite the ongoing unrest and political marches. In response to this the DJ said the amount of gratitude she felt was otherworldly. She mentioned that people believed in her on the actual day when the video was taken, they just chose to believe.
