MBABANE – Last Saturday Sibane Sami Hotel was filled with a joyful ambience as some members of the royal family came out to celebrate the ending of the Buganu season and the heritage of emaSwati through food and dance.

The chefs prepared a variety of traditional food namely ligusha, emasi, goat meat, makhaya chicken, cow’s feet, mathapha, sweet potato, tripe and much more. The hotel was graced by the presence of  Ndzingeni Member of Parliament (MP) Lutfo Dlamini, Prince Sigombeni and Princess Tsandzile, to name a few. This marked the beginning of an event set to happen on a monthly basis at Sibane Sami Hotel.

The hotel supervisor, Nokulunga Malaza, expressed the importance of the event, and its aim. “The aim of the event is to remind people of the significance of culture, as well as acknowledging where we come from. Also how our ancestors were brought up,” said Malaza. She further shared that they planned to also use the outdoor space at the hotel to have classes for young men and women to teach them how to behave as adults, and how to save their womanhood as it was done in the past. She wented on to say they wanted to make it a norm to cook traditional food on a daily basis and be the place where people can come together, enjoy their food, attend cultural events and feel at home.

Sentiments

Prince Sigombeni also shared his sentiments about the event: “We want to take emaSwati back in time, we want the people to embrace the culture, which is what separates us from the rest of the world,” said the prince. He went on to say they wanted people of Eswatini to be proud of their heritage, food, architecture, the dancing and the culture as a whole. The prince further said they wanted to remind people of the importance of culture which is why they are planning to make it a monthly experience. Ndzingeni MP also stressed the importance of culture. “I believe it was a significant event which balanced modernity and tradition,” said Dlamini. He added that such events were worth promoting as they allow people to enjoy traditional healthy food in a restaurant atmosphere.”
