MBABANE – Stuff dreams are made of!

Local songstress Sarnilo’s new single titled ‘Okondana’ has been selected as Apple Music song of the week, a week after it was released. Born Ntando Dlamini popularly known by her stage name Sarnilo, is a songwriter, rapper and poet who has made a name for herself in the music scene through her captivating lyrics and versatility. She describes her music as soul capturing, fun, experimental and emotive. Born of a Malawian mother and a liSwati father, she uniquely incorporates both siSwati and Chichewa in her music to enhance her singing and song writing skills.

Single

Her new single ‘Okondana’ was released last week Friday. During the week of its release, it was selected by Apple Music as the song of the week, much to the excitement of the local musician. Apple Music is a music, audio and video streaming service developed by Apple Incorporated. Users select music to stream on their device on-demand, or they can listen to existing playlists. The song was produced by Sibusiso Bongani Zungu and was released under Antidote Music Record Label. When reached for comment following her latest achievement, the artist shared that she was honoured that her song was chosen among others by Apple Music. “I’m really honoured to represent Eswatini. I am super grateful to the Apple Music team for choosing Okondana as Track of the Week,” Sarnilo said.

Milestone

Antidote Music also had something to say after they received the news about Sarnilo’s song. “It’s a great milestone for her and for us as a label, considering that this is her first official single. It’s not every day that the Apple Music editorial team would pick a song from Eswatini as their Track of the Week. It speaks to the quality of the song and the artist brand that we are creating. We hope this will open many doors for her and other Eswatini artists.

Playlists

“Over and above this we’re excited that she got featured in four Apple Music editorial playlists which are New Music Daily, New in R&B, Afro Soul Mix and Afro-Fusion,” said a representative from the music label. The song taps into her Malawian roots in her use of Chiwewa as she narrates the complexities of youthful love juxtaposed between infatuation and reality. With Sbu Manzini on production, Sarnilo glides on an Afro infused beat as she makes her grand entry with her debut single.
