POET BLESS FEATURED IN US MAGAZINE
MBABANE – Making waves!
Local poet and musician Bless has been featured in a United States of America (USA) magazine known as ‘Pepper Magazine’.
Sibusiso Shongwe, popularly known as Bless, is a songwriter, producer, and poet. He got recognition and trended after his ‘Ngitsandziwe’ Afro-Pop poetry song caused a major stir on social media. The post opened doors for him as he went on and bagged an interview on Eswatini TV on the Tandla Nenkondlo Show and UNESWA Radio 88.2 FM, to mention a few.
Profiled
He was profiled yesterday by the inclusive magazine, which gave him three pages of space. Pepper Magazine is the first international arts, culture, and business magazine based in San Antonio, Texas. The magazine places heavy emphasis on the underlying human story in every subject that it covers. The magazine has an arts section that focuses on discovering talent from all corners of the world.
Shongwe shared with this publication that he was approached via email by USA journalist Day Gomez, who asked to profile him after recognising his work online. “I got an email from Day Gomez, a journalist from the US. I was asked if I would agree to be featured in their magazine, and I agreed as they have noticed some of my work online,” Bless said. He went on to share that he was excited to have been featured by the reputable magazine, as this was made possible by his work. “This is some super awesome magazine. I was thrilled when Day Gomez emailed me saying that she loved my poems, although she doesn’t really understand the language since it’s siswati.
Style
“She fell in love with my style and flow and wanted to include me in their upcoming spring issue. I was so excited when my hard copies came in the mail. Growing up, I used to read magazines such as ‘Swalebs,’ and I got very excited whenever I saw a Swati face on a page, which of course was rare,” Bless concluded.
