MATSAPHA – South African (SA) record producer and musician Tyler said he didn’t expect his hit song ‘Mnike’ to be popular.

Born Austine Baloyi, popularly known as Tyler ICU, he is currently dominating the Amapiano scene with back-to-back hits. He is the brains behind the trending hits ‘Mnike’, ‘Ngimoja’, ‘Banyana’, ‘Izolo’, and “Ithuba,” as well as ‘Tetema, which features Young Stunna and Toss. His recent record ‘Mnike’ was recently announced as the fastest growing song in terms of streaming on Spotify South Africa after reaching three million streams in 31 days. He has worked with Vyno, Steezy, Ab9, and more renowned Mzansi artists under DJ Maphorisa’s Blaqboy Music. The musician delivered an hour-long set at Ekhayeni Chillaz on Friday. The show started at 6pm, with only a few fun lovers present at the venue. Among the DJs who shared the stage with the SA star were DJ Tilungu, The Bishops, Ayacity, Macfowlen, Maphi, Blackpearl, Pharoh, Snolove, and Convo. These DJs captained the show throughout the night, and Tyler ICU took the stage at 1am and performed for an hour.

Appeared

He took the decks with energy and appeared to be enjoying himself from the very beginning of his set. He displayed some light, catchy dance moves that enticed the crowd, especially when playing his record-breaking song titled ‘Mnike’. He played for an hour and then went on to mingle with patrons who were near the stage area. Patrons could not contain their excitement as they screamed and shouted at the top of their voices, reaching out at him, longing to touch the talented SA record producer.  He ended his performance by appreciating the love and energy shown by fun lovers during his performance. He further applauded their presence at the venue, signalling with a hand that he was looking forward to coming back for another show. As he exited the stage, musician and DJ Ayacity took over the decks and maintained the energy brought by Tyler.

After the show, he offered this publication a brief interview, where he shared inspiration about his latest release, titled ‘Mnike’. “I don’t know what really inspired the song; I just wanted to be happy when doing its production, and it just came as ‘Mnike’. However, I feel very humbled that the song is loved by fans; I didn’t expect it to be this great. I feel so happy,” Tyler said. He went on to share that fans can expect another solid release and further shared what keeps him going in his career. “I have a surprise that I am currently working on. There is not much to say at the moment, but fans should be on the lookout. I’m driven by the fact that I don’t plan on going back to being poor. I don’t want to go back to where I came from; I just want to keep going. To aspiring musicians out there, continue working hard and don’t care about being different; just be you and have fun,” Tyler said.
