MBABANE - From humble beginnings to the world.

Nomzamo Mkhonta, who was born and bred in Fairview, Manzini, has appeared on a drama series titled ‘Isitha’. ‘Isitha The Enemy’ is a thrilling, suspense-filled family-oriented drama series that airs on e.tv every weekday from 9:30pm to 10pm. This drama series has shown enormous growth and the power to keep people glued to your screen after replacing ‘The Black Door’. She grew up at Fairview North and attended school at St Michael’s Primary School and St Joseph’s High school.

Period

The actor said that, during her childhood, not everything was bread and butter but she worked hard to get where she was today. “I have faced so many challenges in life as a teenager, where at some point it prompted me to give up on my dreams until I came to South Africa (SA) to look for work,” she said. Mkhonta went on to say that when she reached SA she started as a salesperson before pursuing her dream of acting. Mkhonta was then awarded the opportunity to have screen time on Rhythm City, where she appeared as a background extra. “I was on the soapie for two years until I began getting feature roles on ‘Kasi’ stories. I have been on several TV shows like ‘Skeem Saam’, Steve Harvey show, ‘Outlaws’ as a Doctor, ‘Obsession’ as a Board executive member and I am currently on ‘Isitha The Enemy’ as a police officer who works with officer Simelane and Tk the detective,” said Mkhonta. Her acting debut has been received very well by ‘Isitha’ viewers. She said she was hoping that viewers would love her craft because she was working hard every day to become one of the best actresses known. ‘Isitha’ is my first breakthrough in the industry and I hope viewers are going to love my art and continue supporting our siSwati language and talent,” she added.

Travels

It is worth mentioning that Isitha consists of a storyline whereby a certain man named Chuma Sokhulu (Thobani Nzunza) travels to Eswatini and works as one of the chief’s right hand man. He started to steal the chief’s diamond and then fell in love with one of the chief’s wives and ran away to reunite with his family at Esihlahleni in Mpumalanga. Which sees the chief’s wife following him. It is for that reason that siSwati language is more popular in this drama series. Mkhonta said she was grateful to Power Blue Agency and Blackbrain Production for believing in her with the role she is playing in the drama series. She said: “Working with the ‘Isitha’ crew and cast has been a very pleasant experience and thanks to my agent Lwanga Rote (Power Blue Agency), who believed in me when casting me for this role as well as Blackbrain Production for allowing me to join them.” It is worth noting that the attress is not the first from the kingdom to get screen time on a SA TV series as Sithembiso Kunene was also part of a Mzansi Magic Production, ‘Gomora’.
