MISS ECO-TOURISM FOR NAIRO, KENYA CLIMATE BRIEFING
MBABANE – Miss Eco-Tourism Zandisile Howe will be jetting off to Nairobi, Kenya from July 3 to 15, for the Nariobi Kenya Summer School on Climate justice.
She will be going there to accumulate information on how she can better play her role as Miss Eco-Tourism in the kingdom. Ecotourism provides the economic incentive for preserving Africa’s natural habitats, while educating visitors about the environmental impacts of tourism. Also, some local governments implement specific regulations to protect natural habitats and as queen, Howe is tasked with knowing and closing the niches in these.
The Nairobi Summer School of Criminal Justice (NSSCJ) is an intergenerational platform to share, learn and network on potentially disruptive ideas that catalyse economy-wide transformation in the climate-constrained world. It has a society-wide focus, targeting sectorial-thematic experts and frontline ‘community scholars’ irrespective of education and cultural backgrounds. Climate justice is a concept that addresses the ethical dimensions of global warming and examines concepts such as equity, equality, human rights, collective rights and the historical responsibilities for the climate crisis.
The school is designed to be a continuous learning process since the ‘graduates’ undertake to extend outreach to their respective localities by participating in creative ideas geared towards catalysing communal action in solving immediate local-level challenges they consider detrimental climate justice.
Appreciation
Pageants Eswatini and the National Council of Arts and Culture mentioned that as offices, they were proud of the queen for taking it up upon herself to find ways in which she can help the country that she serves. This was also a first and the country was urged to show appreciation to Howe because climate change stands as one of the most pressing issues of our time, demanding urgent action to mitigate its impacts and these classes will help her be well equip for that.
This publication was not able to speak to her during the time of compiling this article as her phone was off but it was mentioned through Musa Mantinto, who is a member of Pageants Eswatini and organiser of pageants like Miss Eswatini that the queen was quite excited for the new journey and was determined to tackle any challenges that were under her sector, especially those which affected her country. The classes will go on for two weeks where they will be taught various topics under climate change and how it affects earth.
