NOMINATED MPS FROM ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

MBABANE – From artists to presidents of music associations, the first day of the national elections saw familiar faces in the industry accepting nominations for the Member of Parliament position.

They, in their different chiefdoms, were nominated to contest the primary elections that will continue on to the secondary elections. The nominated entertainment personalities include, former Ndzingeni MP Lutfo Dlamini, rapper and ‘Donate Bread Campaign’ founder Sifiso Illa Pen Boy Ndlangamandla, Gospel artist Frans Dlamini, President of the Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACAESWA) Mxolisi Vilakati, and DJ Chuidy. Lutfo Dlamini is a Ndzingeni outgoing Member for Parliament (MP) and former Cabinet Minister for 15 years, but in the entertainment industry, he has been a key player in forming a record label, even being appointed as the president of the Eswatini Music Association (SWAMA), which is a professional non-profit organisation whose mission is to discover, unearth, and promote local musicians and artists. He was nominated at Ndzingeni.

Illa PenBoy, real name Sifiso Ndlangamandla, is a well-known Hip Hop artist and rapper. Thus far, he is the first liSwati artist to reach over 200 000 followers online. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he launched a Donate Bread cam   paign. The campaign started with donations of loaves of bread to National Care Points, benefitting children from different communities. The donations are mobilised from members of the public, corporate companies, and organisations through awareness raised on social media.

Identifying

The campaign has grown to the extent of identifying needy families who need assistance with proper shelter, clothing and food. He was nominated at  Mtsambama. Frans Dlamini is a Gospel artist from Manzini, Eswatini. He began singing in the early 1980s when Mkhwanazi, his former high school teacher at Mphundle High School, encouraged him to join the school choir. His music career began with a group called Khuza Izono Gospel Group in 1988, which he was part of until 2003. He later joined a music group called Khuzizono and left afterwards to pursue a solo career. In less than two months, the artist was filling up huge arenas in the United Kingdom (UK) where he was touring with Mancoba Dlamini and Thabile Myeni. DJ Chuidy, real name Sicelo Zwane, is a DJ and has taken part in stage management. He was born in Manzana, Waterford Hill. He was nominated to run for election as MP for Mbabane West.
