GEDLEMBANE’S ‘ISITHA’ DISMISSAL CLAIMS CLEARED
MBABANE - In a twist of events local comedian Gedlambane has come out to clarify his position on being fired from a South African drama series.
After allegations surfaced on social media on Monday that Jacob ‘Gedlembane’ Shongwe, who is part of the eTV Isitha- The Enemy drama, had been dismissed from the series, the comedian and actor came out to clear the air. It had been alleged that ‘Gedlembane’, who is a well-known comedian, has been expelled from ‘Isitha’ for allegedly misbehaving.
Series
It was further written in an online publication, Swaziland News, that the mediator for the comedian to secure his role in the series, Futhi Simelane, had confirmed the dismissal. It is worth noting that the buzz on social media came from an article published on Monday by an online publication, Swaziland News, about the claims. When both Simelane and ‘Gedlembane’ were reached for comment, their statements had one thing in common, and that was the fact that ‘Gedlembane’ was not dismissed from the series and that the first season had ended, and all the local actors were awaiting a call for the second season, if the show was to continue. First to speak was the actor, who mentioned how the allegations were very much not true and an play to defame him.
“I was not expelled from ‘iSitha’; all I know is that we finished shooting the first season, and the production was quite happy with me, as on the last day myself and another actor also from Eswatini were given appreciation gifts from production,” said Gedlembane. The actor further highlighted that the allegations made about him misbehaving were very much not true, but the only time he was not on set was due to family issues he could not ignore, as they were centred on the health of a loved one. Simelane, on the other hand, affirmed part of the allegations, which were of ‘misbehaving’ although strongly affirming that Gedlembane had not been expelled from the series. During the interview, Simelane highlighted how she was not an agent but a person who was also part of the series and aided Swati actors with the opportunity to be on the big screens when she was told of an opening or available role.
Engagement
“While I was on set of ‘Isitha’, I got the opportunity to have an engagement with the producer, where we concluded that they needed Swati actors from Eswatini for a couple of roles, which is when I got to scout for interested individuals. When I got in contact with Gedlembane and the other actor, I linked them up with an agency run by Nomi. We have had a couple of challenges with Gedlembane when it comes to availability and other issues that we cannot disclose,” said Simelane. Simelane also shared with this publication that she was misquoted on a few allegations on the online publication story. The storyline of the TV series is about Chuma Sokhulu, who was thought to be dead in The Black Door, faces new enemies and dangers in a royal homestead in Eswatini. The show promises to deliver thrilling drama, family feuds, intrigue, and comedy for the whole family to enjoy.
