MBABANE – Eswatini National Schools Arts and Culture Association (ENSACA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training has planned activities for the benefit of all art courts in schools.

ENSACA is an association that sees to it that there are culture-infused activities at schools. This publication also managed to speak to the president of the Eswatini National Schools Culture and Arts Association, Rodney Gamedze. Gamedze highlighted that this year; they were working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Education and were ready for action.

He stated that this collaboration between the ministry and the association would ensure the preservation and growth of this cultural legacy and arts in schools. This partnership will enable both parties to work hand-in-hand towards a brighter future for the nation’s youth. The collaboration also plays a pivotal role in preserving the cultural identity of the nation. He said by integrating cultural education and traditional values into the curriculum schools can empower students to embrace and foster a deep sense of pride in the different art courts.

By working together, schools can enhance extracurricular activities, such as sports, arts and cultural clubs, which foster creativity, teamwork and perseverance. He added that the Ministry of Education can provide the necessary support and resources to create an environment that cultivates well-rounded individuals, who are not only academically proficient, but also socially and emotionally competent.

With great enthusiasm and confidence, Gamedze mentioned that their purpose is to promote culture in schools. “We are helping every Swati child in school, whether it is a public or private school; we are aligned with the children’s right that says every child has a right to play,” said Gamedze. The planned itinerary for the association will begin in February where Choral conductors will meet for a workshop. A workshop to look into the other art courts will begin in April, where a student in that art court will be accompanied by the teacher to the workshop.

“Workshops will begin from February, all the way to April, and Choral music will be the first art court to be discussed,” said Gamedze. The widely followed regional schools culture competition, will began in June and finals will be hosted in July, right before learners sit the second term exams. The art codes include drama and theatre, drum majorettes, sibhaca and ummiso. This publication was to witness the various activities on sight, and the largest crowd was at the drum majorettes section.

There are various age groups competing at both the primary and high school levels. There were different categories, including military, show pros, cheerleading, show novelty, and kwaito boys and girls.During last year’s competition various schools attended including Sydney Williams Primary School, Ludzeludze Primary School, Swazi National High School, Khuphuka High School, and St. Michaels High School, and that is just in the Manzini Region.
