DR BUSELAPHI, MASKANDI QUEEN FOR ESWATINI

Mbabane - Dr Buselaphi, the Maskandi queen from South Africa has officially confirmed her performance for a festival activation.

It will be held on March 23 at Mgungundlovu, Ecetjwayo Play Ground. The festival dubbed ‘Umalusi Festival’ will be hosting a festival activation show, granting every Maskandi music lover free entry. Dr Buselaphi Gxowa, the Queen of Maskandi is a well-known artist who has bagged in 15 awards and 24 certificates. The talented queen who was honoured with a doctorate in Maskandi Music expressed her excitement. She mentioned that Eswatini was her second home as her last visit was through a festival. She assured music lovers an epic performance that will motivate them to look forward to the main show. She will be sharing a stage with the best South African musicians including Thwasa Lekhansela, Skweletu and Gqibu to mention a few.

Power

Music lovers will also see the exciting performances of Gospel musicians, the likes of Phetsile Masilela, the Gospel powerhouse Shiba and Travellers. The show is hosted by THE Menzi Foundation, a non-profit organisation that seeks to eradicate poverty, create opportunities for young people in the arts industry and help improve the entertainment sector. In an interview with the association’s founder, Menzi Thabethe, he expressed that the forthcoming activation was set to build momentum towards the main show. He said it will be more remarkable as the event will feature performances by South African and local artists. “We’ve chosen to innovate by blending different music genres and bringing in prominent acts from South Africa,” he stated.

Opportunities

Thabethe also reiterated the foundation’s goal of creating opportunities within the arts sector. He emphasised their commitment to providing local artists with performance opportunities and fair compensation. Additionally, he commended the local talent, describing Eswatini as a hub of genuine artistic prowess. “Without young talented people, our industry would be nothing. “We are all about empowerment and we hope that the second edition will change people’s lives for the better,” he added. Thabethe mentioned that the main event will be announced in this publication.

Activation

“This is just activation and we are looking at hosting different activation in the four regions bringing the best music,” he said. He also assured patrons activities that include Sibhaca, Netball and soccer. “The day will be jam-packed with different activities including music. We also have a tournament, the event will start at 8am to 6pm,” he added.
