MBABANE - Miss University Eswatini Queen Nakkita Harris is expected to take part in the upcoming Miss University Africa pageant scheduled for Nigeria next month.

This comes after the Miss University Africa pageant was postponed last year due to unrest in Nigeria. Out of the 55 countries in Africa, 52 will be participating in this competition. Founded by businessman Taylor Nazzal, the competition has 54 contestants who represent 54 countries in Africa and the winner of the pageant receives US$50,000 (E 954,849.67) in endorsement deals, a new car and becomes a United Nations Student Ambassador. The Miss University Africa competition is a non-bikini pageant aimed at celebrating African beauty with brains. During an interview with Nakkita Harris, she shared her excitement for being selected to participate in this competition, citing that it means the world to her.

“This competition means the world to me; it’s one of the most prestigious African beauty pageants, where each and every African country is represented. To top it all, the winner gets to be a youth ambassador at the UN. Adding to that, this would enable me to create a lifelong alliance with African countries to prompt cultural diversity, empower the girl child, and help them realise their goals. My crowing hasn’t been the easiest; at that time, we were just recovering from the effects of COVID-19 and experienced a first-of-its kind nationwide unrest. The pageant has kept me busy. I studied at Regent Business School and completed my studies in HealthCare Service Management. I have also been participating in local fashion shows, showcasing local designers’ impressive creations. My crowing took place at an event hosted by Eswatini Arts and Culture in 2022 at Bethel Court Ezulwini,” Harris said.

The Chairperson of Beauty Pageants Eswatini, Sandra Ismail, also shared that participating in this competition will help foster co-operation between nations. “By representing her country with professionalism and respect, this can help foster mutual understanding and co-operation between nations and contribute to a more peaceful and stable world. This is particularly important in today’s globalised world, where countries are increasingly interconnected and interdependent. On behalf of Arts and Culture, Pageants Eswatini, we would like to congratulate her and wish her the best of luck.
