EUROPEAN UNION CREATES CATALOGUE FOR ARTISANS
MBABANE – The European Union (EU) in Eswatini has created a catalogue for marketing artisans products online in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC).
The catalogue was announced last week by the European Union through their Facebook page, where they also shared a preview of how the catalogue will work for artisans. According to the post they made on Facebook, the aim of the catalogue is to connect entrepreneurs with new buyers and distributors. “The European Union (EU) in Eswatini and the International Trade Centre (ITC) have created a catalogue marking the fresh new launch of Eswatini’s artisans’ sleek, handcrafted product lines across the homeware, skincare, accessories and food segments.
Goals
The goal is to connect these entrepreneurs with new buyers and distributors and to position Eswatini as a competitive and creative player in the global market, especially in the EU and South Africa. Product development collaborations and long-term commercial relationships are what we are looking for. So stay tuned,” read the post. Worth mentioning is the fact that this is not the first time the EU has opened its hands to artisans in the country. They have an ongoing collaboration with the MTN Bushfire Festival, where they host the ‘EU Bushfire Schools Festival’.
According to their website, the EU Bushfire Schools Festival works towards providing sustainable access to the arts and developing a unique platform of creative expression and dialogue for young people in the country. Each year, the festival has a specific theme, chosen in collaboration with key stakeholders, which is used to impart positive social messaging around child protection social issues to learners and teachers. The fundamental aims of the EU Bushfire Schools Festival are to support, facilitate and develop arts education in Eswatini, support arts curriculum implementation and increase the participation of local arts facilitators, allowing them to inspire and impart their skills to Eswatini’s aspiring artists.
