MBABANE – “The arts industry seems to be overlooked in the country, yet that is where the young talent stems from to represent Eswatini internationally.”

This was highlighted by former Manzini North MP Macford Sibandze, who once hosted one of the biggest comedy shows in the country. Sibandze was spotted at the recent Balcony Groove hosted by Ocean Cuisine this past weekend, where he said it was important for more politicians and corporations to take a risk and invest in this industry as they are doing in other sectors, as the cultural industry has stars that need to be given the platform.

ARTS INDABA

The former minister also highlighted that for the people who are part of the industry to get recognition, he believes that it would be best to host an arts indaba. Sibandze put forth that his passion for arts and his understanding of the industry makes it wise for people to invest in something that they understood best, and he made an example by saying that he once tried to venture into transport but that it was not successful compared to art, as 8/10 events he has hosted were a success. “I see the need for a huge Art Indaba, as this will help other politicians and corporations to see the need to plant in this industry and wait for the fruits later, other than planting in the same industry that has already germinated,” said Sibandze.

Speaking to Thami ‘Toxic’ Mamba who is Epic Gig organiser he said that the most unfortunate part about this is that it all goes back to black people and sabotaging their own. He highlighted that as the people who work in the marketing departments of these companies are the gatekeepers, and it all lies on who knows who, so without a connection nowadays, it’s very hard for a black person event to be a success. “This would be a great initiative as the sponsorships would help our brands grow and employ more black youth,” elaborated Dlamini.
