NDOSH STARTS MENTAL HEALTH CAMPAIGN
MBABANE – Local comedian and MC Ndosh has collaborated with a few locals to produce a short film that hints at dementia as a means to increase mental health awareness in the country.
Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning, thinking and reasoning to the extent that it interferes with a person’s daily life and activities. Ndosh said that as an entertainer, he saw the big gap in the lack of activity on mental health issues, yet it falls under Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). “Not so long ago, I read an article that highlighted NCD’s killing forty-one million people each year, which is equivalent to seventy-four percent of all deaths globally. With that kind of statistic, it would be folly of me not to expose my fellow countrymen to such occurrences,” said the vibrant MC, who also added that, as dementia is one of them, they still have a host of other episodes that are highlighting different mental health disorders.
Campaign
One may wonder how Ndosh is affiliated with mental health issues; Ndosh also doubles as a mental health professional, which will make this campaign even more lively, thus reaching more people. “The most important role of the campaign is to educate as many emaSwati as possible; we also try to capture the data or experiences of individuals living with people affected by dementia and all other disorders,” he said. It was also mentioned that the input of the people helps them get the real feel of the events that they go through every day. They may also have support groups and funds in the near future to develop more episodes, much more than they are currently doing. The incredible and amazing team that was involved in the production of the short film includes the likes of Angel Zubuko, Lebohang Mabuza and Ndumiso ‘Cross’ Mabilisa, Silverspoon Pictures and Slatorshot Films.
