ANOTHER LISWATI DEBUTS ON ISITHA

MBABANE – A local actress has debuted on Isitha episode 277, which aired on Tuesday on Etv.

Isitha is a series produced by Mandla and Mpumelelo Nhlapo. It is based on the popular series ‘The Black Door’, and its first episode aired on May 22 last year. The series captures a raging sibling rivalry that emerges between the Sokhulu brothers. Local actress Nobandile Kunene made her debut on the series, following a number of emaSwati who had already debuted. Kunene shared her excitement about being part of the famous series on her Instagram page, citing that she was excited about the new journey.

“I’m proud to say I’m now a @blackbrain_sa baby, and I’m excited for this new journey. I hope to make you proud, maSwati lamahle. I bring to you Zandile Ngomane, Mrs Ngwenya, @etv_isitha_the_enemy, please watch,” read part of her post. Kunene also debuted on South African screens a while ago, where she was a weather presenter on SABC, especially during the siSwati news. She is also a talented make-up artist based in Johannesburg and the owner of Imphandze Hair Supplement, which is a product suitable for all types of hair, scalps and ages.

Featured

It is worth mentioning that a number of local actors have debuted on Isitha. These include comedian Gedlembane, Sebenta Mhlanga and Hloniphile Sihlongonyane, to name a few. Gedlembane was the second act to debut in the series, as Sebenta Mhlanga was the first one. Hloniphile Sihlongonyane is arguably the last liSwati before Nobandile to join Isitha, as she made her debut early this year. Other local actors that are currently breaking ground in South Africa include Nomzamo ‘Zamo’ Dlamini and Sthera. Having more emaSwati featured in the South African series actually reflects that there is talent in the kingdom. Being featured on these shows will enable local actors to network and further make it to prestigious shows, just like the likes of Trevor Noah, who made his way to Europe after starting in South Africa.

Development

According to the newly-launched Eswatini National Arts and Culture Policy, the kingdom is endowed with talent, but the development of cultural industries is still low. “The challenge for us is to adopt policies, programmes and strategies to promote the development of talent, creativity and the general growth of local industries,” reads part of the policy. Having local actors break ground in South Africa, gives the local film and television industry hope that more doors will be opened for talented local actors. Those who are currently showcasing their talent in South Africa will obviously get experience and be able to share it with other local upcoming actors who are determined to make it onto South African and international screens.
