MATSAPHA - The choral competitions for intermediate and elementary schools have come to a close, and it seems that they ended on a high note.

Nhlangano Central High School emerged as the ultimate winner in this year’s competitions. They not only walked away with a whopping E5 000 cash prize, but also qualified for the champ of champs next year.  In the mixed choirs’ elementary category, Mpaka High School secured the first position. They received a cash prize of E4 000 for their outstanding performance.

‘‘The Ministry of Education would like to extend their sincere gratitude to EswatiniBank for their continuous contribution towards the development of children in schools. EswatiniBank’s sponsorship of the music competitions has played a significant role in supporting the growth and enrichment of children’s talents. It is through partnerships like these that we can create more opportunities for students to explore their artistic abilities.’’

Contributions

Bongani Siyaya, who spoke on behalf of the ministry, highlighted the pivotal contributions of choral music to the arts industry. He acknowledged that the arts industry worldwide contributes billions of Dollars to economies and plays a crucial role in the economic development of Eswatini. Siyaya also applauded the conductors of school choirs for investing in the youth and equipping them with valuable life skills. The impact of their efforts will be far-reaching. Dr. Elmond Shongwe, one of the adjudicators of the competitions, shared a few words of advice with the participating students. He emphasised the importance of relating to the music they are singing. Dr. Shongwe noted that if a song is of African origin, students should sing it with genuine feelings and express the love they have for the music.

Dedication

By doing so, the audience will be able to connect with the performance on a deeper level. It’s wonderful to see the passion and dedication displayed by the students and educators involved in the choral competitions. Music has the power to inspire, uplift and bring people together, and these competitions are a testament to that.
