ESWATINI’S ZAMO, KELLY KHUMALO, LWAH GO HEAD-TO-HEAD

MBABANE – Eswatini-born songstress and Afro-Pop musician has been nominated in the upcoming ‘Basadi in Music Awards.

She will be up against South African superstars, Lwah Ndlunkulu and Kelly Khumalo, Inkhona and Naledi Aphiwe. Local award-winning musician and actress Zamo says she feels honoured to have been nominated in the upcoming awards. Worth mentioning is the fact that voting is currently underway for the awards and is set to close towards the end of this month on July 28. The 2024 Basadi in Music Awards will take place on August 10 at the Johannesburg Theatre in Braamfontein, to celebrate and honour women in the South African music industry.

It will be hosted for the second time by actress Unathi Nkayi local songstress Zamo has been nominated in under the ‘SofnFree Afro-Pop Artist of the Year’ category. During an interview with this publication, she shared that she was honoured to have been recognised as she almost gave up music. “I feel very honoured. I remember there was a point where I was like I don’t want to do this music thing anymore. So for me this is kind of that little validation saying girl you are still there and you still have it.

‘‘I have to keep pushing because I do not only stand for myself, but I also stand as a big part of my whole country,” she said. She further called on emaSwati to rally behind her through voting. “I would really appreciate if people would just vote and I am pleading with them. I am nothing without the people, even now I still stand and saying guys I can be happy if you would vote for me so I can hoist the Eswatini flag this side.  Thanks to the ones who continuously support, I have people which I know that they are always there rooting for me, I always appreciate,” the musician said.  People can vote through the short message service (SMS), where they can send ‘Afropop Zamo’ to 49960. Each SMS costs E2 and it is allowed to send as many SMS as you can. Free SMS do not apply.
