MISS TEEN LUBOMBO WINNERS EMBRACE CHARITY
MBABANE – One of the duties and activities that the Miss Teen winners are supposed to partake in before the national pageant finals is charity work.
This was revealed by Miss Teen Pageant Director, Penelope Mcanco. The director said that doing such activities would help ensure that the young girls were able to communicate, show selflessness and create relationships with other people. “Every contestant from the four regions is expected to do charity work to prove themselves and their capabilities of working with other people. Lubombo has done their part, so now Manzini, Hhohho and Shiselweni will be next,” she said.
Mcanco also mentioned that while doing this with the Lubombo team, she enjoyed seeing the girls working and that in return, it motivated her to keep pushing the girls to reach their full potential. “I really love working with children because they are largely untainted by the world around us. Unlike adults, who bring their own baggage to almost every situation, children, especially young children, are a tabula rasa, filled with wonder and eager to learn,” she said. The director went on to mention that there is nothing more rewarding than enabling a child to explore, see, and learn for themselves.
Miss Teen Lubombo queen, Tessie Matsebula said that she enjoyed spending time with the children. “Doing this made me realise that I love children and that they are the simplest creatures. They are so bright and untouched by the rays of true life,” she said. Matsebula went on to say that she was pleased more especially when the children would laugh with her. “They laugh when you pick them up. They laugh as the wind tickles their beautiful locks, eyes squinted, staring right at the sun because someone once told them not to and their happiness is contagious,” she said. When asked how her life has changed ever since she won the title, the young girl said that she believed the new title would give her the relevant recognition in her journey.
