9-YEAR-OLD MAKHAI BENNETT WINS TALENT AMERICA CONTEST
MBABANE- Nine-year-old Makhai Duane Bennett from Talent ‘n’ Motion Academy clinched first place in the vocal pop category at Talent America, in New York.
Talent ‘n’ Motion Academy is celebrating a new musical triumph for Eswatini. Young singer Makhai won first place in the vocal pop category at the Talent America International Competition, held in New York from June 28 to June 30, 2024.
Restrictions
Makhai participated virtually through the Show Your Talent team due to travel restrictions. On June 28, his performance video was showcased in Times Square, New York, before a panel of American judges and scouts. The results, announced on August 5, revealed Bennett as the top winner in vocal pop, earning a full scholarship to compete live in America next year.
The scholarship was awarded by Barry Kokler, a prominent American scout and founder of the Carson Kokler Organisation, known for representing performers in various entertainment fields. Kokler was a judge at this year’s competition.

Velile Dube, Director of Talent ‘n’ Motion Academy and the Show Your Talent – Eswatini program, expressed immense pride in Makhai’s achievement. Dube praised Makhai’s exceptional talent and anticipated even greater successes ahead. She noted that Eswatini’s talent is increasingly gaining global recognition and hinted at attending next year’s live competition in America. Makhai was among five winners from the Show Your Talent – Eswatini competition, held at the Eswatini Theatre Club in Mbabane in August 2023.
The event, launched in July 2023 at Mountain View in partnership with the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture and Kwakitsi Foundation, has set the stage for local talent.

Dube acknowledged Juanita Oosthuizen, Director of Show Your Talent – South Africa and Talent America’s African agent, for facilitating Eswatini’s participation. She also revealed plans to host the second edition of the Show Your Talent – Eswatini competition by the end of September, encouraging aspiring talents to showcase their skills. Talent America, a 5 1-year-old competition, is renowned for discovering new talent and has launched many successful careers in entertainment.The competition’s judges include top industry professionals such as casting directors, talent managers and music executives.
