NO ALCOHOL, FOUL LANGUAGE FOR CONTESTANTS
MBABANE – Miss Eswatini contestants are not expected to consume alcohol, use foul language during the time of the pageant.
This is written in last year’s Miss Eswatini pageant guidelines, which were shared with this publication by a well-placed source within the arts council. According to the guideline, once an individual is listed as part of the contestants for the pageant, they should not consume alcoholic beverages and use vulgar language until the competition is done. “Contestants must conduct themselves in a proper ladylike manner and portray high moral standards. Contestants will not be permitted to drink alcoholic beverages, smoke or use foul language at any time during the pageant,” reads part of the guideline.
The regulations listed in the guideline put emphasis on contestants conducting themselves in a proper ladylike manner and portraying high moral standards. In defining Miss Eswatini, the document states that she is a young lady who strives to promote the Kingdom of Eswatini’s cultural and natural heritage. She endeavours to promote the great traditional cultural way of life with its strong morals and values. “Miss Eswatini will be a talented, selfless and personable woman with a vast knowledge of culture and other sporting activities. She is a young lady who enjoys travel and has a sincere interest in garnering educational experiences that will assist in laying a solid foundation for her future,” reads the document.
Other important regulations listed in the guidelines say that a contestant must not have previously been, or presently be, married or pregnant. They must also not have ever been convicted of a crime. The Miss Eswatini Organising Committee and Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) Executive Board expect each contestant to display the highest degree of sportsmanship during the pageant and particularly following the coronation ceremony. Each contestant should be mindful that she is representing her hometown, her region and her sponsors and professional sport if she has any. Poor sports man like conduct will not be tolerated and could result in the contestant being disqualified and may affect future eligibility to compete in the Miss Eswatini Pageant.
During a previous interview with ENCAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Dlamini, he mentioned that individuals should not join the current competition because of the grand prize. “People should not rush to join the competition because they have been promised that they will win a car. What is important is for them to understand the purpose of the pageant, which is promoting the Kingdom of Eswatini, its cultural and natural heritage,” Dlamini said.
There are currently 25 candidates for this year’s Miss Eswatini pageant, as revealed by licence-holder Oukitel Eswatini. The pageant winner will walk away with a number of amazing prizes that include a BMW i3, a fully electric car that comes with the Oukitel Portable Power Station to keep the car charged at all times, and a E50 000 cash prize. The winner will also receive free skincare products during her reign and will be the official brand ambassador for the Oukitel brand in Eswatini.
