‘TANZANIA TOOK 6 MONTHS TO COMPLETE’
MBABANE – Award-winning Amapiano musician Uncle Waffles says it took her six months to work on her breakout song titled ‘Tanzania’.This was revealed by the musician during an interview with Amazon Music dubbed ‘My Musical Firsts’ yesterday. She bagged the interview with Amazon Music after making history at this year’s Brooklyn Mirage, which saw her being the first black woman and Amapiano musician to headline the show. When talking about her breakout single, she mentioned that it took her six months, due to several reasons. “It took me six months because I was still in the learning process. When everything happened, I was still finding my feet,” she said.‘Tanzania’ was released as a single on September 28, 2022, and it features prominent South African musicians such as Tony Duardo, Sino Msolo and Boibizza. At the time of compiling this report, the video was sitting on 3 700 606 views on her YouTube channel.
Performance
The musician further revealed how she had her first performance in a pub with only a few patrons. “My first live performance was in 2021 at a pub. I think there were around 50 people and I was very nervous, I did a horrible job. My first show was at Hipnotik in 2016, I snuck out because I lost my cellphone. However, I got to see a lot of South African artists, such as Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest,” she said.Worth mentioning is that Amazon Music refers to the musician as ‘The Princess of Amapiano’ which is a name she was first given to her by Billboard. “Following an epic show at Brooklyn Mirage, Uncle Waffles, the princess of Amapoiano, was grateful to share about her musical firsts,” read the caption from Amazon Music.
Lungelihle Zwane, popularly known as Uncle Waffles, is best known for her official debut single ‘Tanzania’ and the hit Extended Playlist (EP) ‘Red Dragon’. Uncle Waffles is noted for her work in the Amapiano genre and her dance abilities.She has caught the attention of some of the biggest international musicians in the game.
