MBABANE – The Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima, applauded the winners of ‘Rise to Greater Heights Retreat and Awards’ winners.
This was during a brief meeting held at the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs offices yesterday. The winners of the awards which were hosted in Durban, South Africa last month, are Linda Dlamini, Tjovitjo, Thabile Mdluli, Goodwill Dlamini, Celeste Jacobs and  Dudu Dube. However, some of the winners could not attend the meeting with the minister, as only Mdluli and Tjovitjo were present.

In hailing the winners, Nzima shared they were happy to learn that local creative talents shines beyond borders. “Whenever we see our artists coming back with awards, especially from a competition, we become happy because we realise that their talent shines beyond borders. These winners have hoisted our flag in the neighbouring South Africa and we really appreciate their achievement. Eswatini has to be on the global map by any means. Such  achievements are telling us that we need to put more effort and dedication in supporting our artists, and that is exactly what we will do even for the younger generation to come,” Nzima.

The meeting was also attended by Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) Director of Culture Phinda Nkosi, who said the winners are an inspiration to other creatives.
“I am so proud of them, they must continue to inspire other young people. From the Eswatini National Arts and Culture Policy level, we are saying job well done. We are able to see the direction of the policy where we are putting emphasis that we want this industry to be a revenue generating industry. I believe international creatives, such as the likes of Burna Boy, went through the same challenges and competitions to be the stars they are today; make sure you follow suit and be a source of inspiration,” Nkosi said.

Award-winning MC Tjovitjo recalled moments where he won awards, which were supported by ENCAC in the kingdom, and encouraged the ministry to also support other creatives in the kingdom. “We were humbled to be recognised as part of the awards, coming back with something in hand is really amazing. I have won ‘Best MC’ of Eswatini Creators Awards three times respectively and this happened because of the support given to us by ENCAC, who kindly supported the awards. I am appealing to the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs to do the same for other creatives. We are grateful for the support they have always given us, as artists in the kingdom,” he said.
