MBABANE - Recent monetary statistics released by Spotify shed light on the streaming platform’s burgeoning presence in Eswatini.

The stats revealed that the kingdom contributes approximately E80 000 annually through its premium subscriptions. With each premium user paying E208.59, the total number of subscribed users currently stands at 383, while the majority of listeners continue to access music for free. Spotify made its entry into Eswatini in 2021, marking a significant step for the company and local music enthusiasts alike. In its inaugural year, the service attracted a modest 12 subscribers per month, highlighting the slow start in a market that is still finding its footing in the digital music landscape.

Premium

The recent growth in premium subscriptions, however, indicates a growing interest in paid streaming services among Eswatini’s population. The platform currently houses a number of musicians from the country, including, Ndumiso Manana, King JR, Mandisa Mamba, Oriiginelle just to name a few.
