US FILM PRODUCER APPLAUDS DUSTY, STONES DOCUMENTARY
MBABANE – United States of America (USA) Film Producer Jesse Rudoy says he is happy about Dusty and Stones new documentary, which is currently being screened in Los Angeles (LA).
Jesse Rudoy is a documentary filmmaker, musician, podcast producer, and born-again Country music fan, based in Brooklyn. Jesse was a writer and producer on ‘Morally Indefensible’, FX Network’s first podcast about the Jeffrey MacDonald murders. Rudoy directed the new Duty and Stones documentary and is also known for his work on several prominent international films, such as ‘Long Nights’, ‘Short Mornings’, which were released in 2016, and ‘Wild Canaries’, released in 2014. Worth mentioning, Jesse Rudoy visited the country last year, during the official premier of the documentary at House On Fire at Malkerns.
After realising that the documentary is currently being screened in LA, he shared his excitement with this publication during an interview. Rudoy says having the film screened in LA means so much to him. “I’m so excited that the documentary is being screened for a week in Los Angeles. It means so much to be able to share the story of these two remarkable Swati musicians on the big screen, in such a city that is so central to the film and television industry,” Rudo said.
Screening
When asked if there is a way for local fans to stream the screening, he said it will be arranged soon. “There’s not currently a way for folks in Eswatini to stream the film, but hopefully soon,” he said. The Dusty and Stones documentary is a continent-crossing journey story told through Country music. The documentary intimately chronicles the remarkable ride of cousins Gazi ‘Dusty’ Simelane and Linda ‘Stones’ Msibi; a determined duo of struggling Country singers from the tiny African Kingdom of Eswatini who long for their big break.
The film came about when they were unexpectedly invited to record their songs in Nashville late last year and to compete in a Texas battle of the bands.
Over a momentous ten-day road trip through the American South, ‘Dusty and Stones’ brought their music to life in a top Nashville recording studio. Worth mentioning, CNN recently featured Dusty and Stones on their mini documentary segment, which was released early this month.

This was revealed on the MTN Bushfire Festival social media pages. “The recognition by CNN underscores the artists’ talent, uniqueness, and impact, as well as the growing global appreciation for the sheer variety of musical expression on the African continent.
MTN Bushfire is thrilled to celebrate CNN’s recognition of Eswatini’s ‘Dusty and Stones’ for their unique contributions to global music, showcasing the diversity and richness of African music,” reads their post.
Excited
During a recent interview with Dusty and Stones, they also echoed Rudoy’s words, citing they are excited about the on-going screening. “We’re excited about this screening. LA is the home of filmmaking. To air our story, there is beyond something we would have ever imagined. “We’re thrilled beyond words. This opportunity further gives us the motivation to keep doing what we enjoy doing, making country music.
We can’t wait for that part of the world to experience our story, as it is so unique; it’s way different from what they’re used to,” the duo said.
