LOCAL MODELS MISS OUT ON ZANZIBAR FASHION SHOW
MBABANE - Heartbreak for local models as transport woes prevent showcase at prestigious event.
Vuyiswa Shabangu and Debra Dlamini two promising local models missed a golden opportunity to showcase their talents at the Karibu Zanzibar International Fashion Festival this past Saturday. Both models are registered under Top Models Eswatini and the chance to participate in the event was arranged by the agency’s director, Mbali Manana.
In an exclusive interview, Manana expressed her deep disappointment regarding the incident, particularly as this was intended to be the girls’ final gig of the year. “The girls were supposed to be part of the show from December 20 to 23, but transport issues delayed us. The person we had initially planned to travel with lost communication with us and when we tried plan B for the girls to use a bus it broke down along the way,” she explained.
Despite this setback, Top Models Eswatini recently celebrated a significant achievement at the Zikomo Africa Awards where they were honoured as the best modelling agency. This prestigious annual event recognises excellence across various sectors, including fashion, music, entrepreneurship and humanitarian efforts. The success at the awards highlights the agency’s commitment to fostering talent and encouraging the next generation of models in Eswatini to pursue excellence and recognition in their respective fields.
Disheartened
The absence of Shabangu and Dlamini from the Karibu Zanzibar Fashion Festival has left their colleagues in the local fashion community disheartened as both models were expected to make a significant impact on the international stage. Their participation would have not only showcased their skills, but also brought attention to the burgeoning fashion scene in Eswatini.
As Top Models Eswatini takes a moment to regroup, the local fashion community eagerly anticipates their next moves. The models’ recent accolade at the Zikomo Awards has raised expectations and there is a sense of optimism that more achievements lie ahead. The unfortunate transport debacle serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by aspiring models in Eswatini and the importance of reliable logistics in the competitive world of fashion.
Moving forward, Manana and her team are determined to ensure that such issues do not impede future opportunities for their models.
While the missed opportunity at the Karibu Zanzibar International Fashion Festival is undoubtedly a setback the future remains bright for Shabangu, Dlamini and Top Models Eswatini, their resilience and talent are sure to lead them to greater heights in the fashion industry, with the local scene watching closely and cheering them on.
