GROUNDBREAKING FESTIVAL CALENDAR UNVEILED
MBABANE – A groundbreaking festival calendar is on the horizon, aiming to enhance cohesion and transparency in event planning across the kingdom. This initiative was proposed by renowned event organisers Mbekezeli ‘Culolam’ Dlamini, Banele Dlamini, Toxik, Sdoro and Jiggs Thorne during the closing day of the Eswatini Arts Summit, where a panel discussion highlighted the calendar’s potential benefits, Culolam articulated the pressing need for a festival calendar, stating: “The calendar will help avoid the clashing of events whenever someone seeks to host an occasion. It will also aid in informing preparations and planning for events.
It is indeed a challenge to have multiple festivals scheduled on the same date, as it conveys the notion that we are not collaborating effectively as organisers. The calendar will help to resolve these issues.” The significance of this calendar extends beyond event organisers alone. Banele Dlamini echoed this sentiment, emphasising that the calendar will serve festivalgoers and businesses operating at events. “The festival calendar will not only benefit event organisers, but will also assist patrons in planning their attendance at their favourite festivals. Additionally, vendors managing stalls at these festivals will gain an advantage, as they will be able to budget effectively, knowing in advance the dates they will need to secure their stalls.”
For festivalgoers, this means a more streamlined experience when selecting events to attend, eliminating the frustration of having to choose between competing festivals. With a clear overview of scheduled events, attendees can plan their calendars more effectively and ensure they don’t miss out on opportunities to enjoy music, art, food and culture celebrated across Eswatini.

The calendar will also promote a stronger sense of community among festivalgoers, as individuals can anticipate the gatherings of like-minded people and plan shared experiences. Whether it be music festivals, cultural celebrations, or food fairs, patrons will have a comprehensive view of events happening across the kingdom, fostering connections and encouraging attendance at various festivities throughout the year. Moreover, the calendar takes into consideration different types of festivals, including traditional celebrations, contemporary art events, and food festivals, thereby embracing the diverse cultural landscape in Eswatini.
Each festival has its unique offerings and the calendar will enable attendees to appreciate the vibrancy of the kingdom’s creative scene without the stress of scheduling conflicts. The proposal for the festival calendar embodies a forward-looking approach to the arts and culture sector in Eswatini. With the arts community coming together to establish a cohesive framework for event planning, the potential for growth in the festival scene is significant.
