BABUKISI FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH LIGWALAGWALA FM
MBABANE – The Babukisi Foundation has announced an exciting new partnership with the renowned South African radio station Ligwalagwala FM, aimed at promoting Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.
This collaboration will mark the first-ever residency of the Babukisi Foundation at Ligwalagwala FM, with programming scheduled to air every Thursday starting this week. Thobejane Magagula, Founder and Director of the Babukisi Foundation, shared these details during an interview with this publication.
“We are truly humbled to partner with Ligwalagwala. This important collaboration will see Eswatini culture being showcased internationally. It will enable the Babukisi Foundation to continue our mission of educating people about Eswatini’s unique cultural heritage. EmaSwati living in South Africa will now have the opportunity to learn more about our traditions and values,” Magagula explained. Despite celebrating this milestone, Magagula expressed a sense of disappointment that recognition came first from a foreign radio station rather than from local platforms.
The Babukisi Foundation’s recent participation at the Ummemo event in South Africa, held at the Ngomane Royal Residence in Hhoye on Saturday, is another highlight for the organisation. During this event, they connected with various royal delegates from South Africa as well as Shakes Cuna, a prominent presenter from Ligwalagwala FM. Cuna lauded the foundation for its commitment to educating others about Eswatini’s culture.
“I am a keen follower of the Babukisi Foundation and appreciate the work they are doing.
Their efforts in informing people about the Swati way of life are commendable. I urge them to continue flying the Eswatini flag high,” he said. Hlangabeza Mdluli, the Acting National Imbali Overseer, who has significant involvement in the Umhlanga Ceremony, was also present at the Ummemo gathering. He echoed Cuna’s praise for the Babukisi Foundation and expressed gratitude to Their Majesties for enabling his participation. “Babukisi Foundation deserves all the good fortune and this residency with Ligwalagwala. They excelled during last year’s Incwala Ceremony, effectively marketing Swati culture to a diverse audience,” Mdluli remarked.

The gathering also saw delegates from the Ngomane Royal residence applauding Prince Sicelo for his warm hospitality during the recent Incwala Ceremony. They noted his kindness and generosity towards visiting delegates from South Africa who came to the kingdom, further reinforcing the cultural bonds between the two regions. This partnership with Ligwalagwala FM promises to be a significant step forward for the Babukisi Foundation. By reaching South African audiences, they can amplify Eswatini’s cultural narrative and provide a platform for discussions surrounding local customs, traditions, and art.
The show will likely focus on various aspects of Eswatini culture, including music, dance, folklore and craft, inviting experts and practitioners to share their insights.
This collaboration opens up new avenues for understanding and engaging with their heritage. Local listeners will have the chance to stay informed about developments in the cultural landscape of Eswatini while enjoying unique programming that celebrates their identity.
As Babukisi Foundation takes this bold step into a broader market, it remains committed to its core mission of preserving and promoting Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.
