MBABANE – In an exciting venture, the producers of the film ‘Mahlaba: The Street Kid’ are urging local musicians to submit original tracks for the movie’s soundtrack.

With a goal to feature over 50 local songs, Zakhele Mabuza, a local filmmaker and the driving force behind ‘Mahlaba’, emphasised the importance of a homegrown production.

Mabuza said: “We would love to have a fully Swati production, even in the music, as this production is all about breaking international opportunities not just in film, but also in music, fashion and tourism”.

This initiative not only represents a unique opportunity for Eswatini’s musicians, but also aligns with a broader vision to elevate Swati art on a global stage.

Encouraged

Artists from various genres, including Gospel, Hip Hop, Pop and Amapiano, are encouraged to participate and showcase their talent.

However, it is crucial for artists to understand that submitting a song does not guarantee its inclusion in the film’s final soundtrack.

The producers are looking for tracks that meet international quality standards, ensuring that the film remains competitive on the global scene.

To seize this opportunity, interested musicians must submit their tracks via WeTransfer links to WhatsApp number 7631 9373 by no later than the April 5, 2025.

The film is set to premiere in mid-May 2025, following the recent pilot screening hosted at Julio’s Cinelux.

The screening was a highlight for both the film industry and local musicians, as it opened doors for future collaborations and exposure.

Enhancing

Brotherwood Studios is fully committed to investing in local talent, focusing on enhancing the skills of the actors featured in the film.

The project is supported by Shelembe Aphiwe Productions, based in Durban, which will provide invaluable human resources to further enhance the film’s quality.

EmaSwati can look forward to a production that addresses social issues they are intimately familiar with, weaving a narrative that resonates deeply with the audience.

The soundtrack will play an integral role in elevating these themes, bridging the gap between the film’s cinematic elements and the cultural backdrop of Eswatini.

Local musicians are encouraged to embrace this momentous opportunity.

Challenges

With the film’s storyline set to capture the essence of Swati life and its multifaceted challenges, the involvement of homegrown music will add depth and authenticity.

In essence, ‘Mahlaba: The Street Kid’ is more than just a film; it’s a movement to uplift and showcase Eswatini’s rich cultural tapestry.

For the musicians of Eswatini, this is a chance to be part of something bigger—a collaborative effort that not only highlights local talent, but also paves the way for future generations of artists.
