OVER 100 JOB OPPORTUNITIES ARISE FROM MAKOTI FESTIVAL
MBABANE – The Makoti Festival is set to invigorate the Eswatini economy by generating over 100 job opportunities during the main event.
This highly anticipated festival is not merely a vibrant celebration of culture; it promises to provide a substantial economic boost to the region by creating a multitude of positions for emaSwati.
Organisers have confirmed that various opportunities across several sectors will arise in the lead-up to and during the festival, offering vital employment amid challenging economic conditions.
As a cornerstone of Eswatini’s cultural calendar, the Makoti Festival draws thousands of attendees each year, showcasing the rich traditions surrounding the ‘makoti’ (bride) and the broader institution of marriage within the kingdom.
Impact
This year, the festival’s economic impact is expected to reach unprecedented heights.
In an interview with Thembinkhosi Mthethwa, the festival Director, he shared that they had to close applications for casual staff vacancies the day after the link was circulated.
“We had to close applications due to the overwhelming response, with over 1 500 people applying,” he said.
Mthethwa expressed a desire to accommodate everyone, but regrettably noted the limitations of their capacity:
“We are looking forward to creating over 100 job opportunities for emaSwati during the main event.”
The creation of these positions reflects the Makoti Festival’s commitment to fostering economic growth within local communities.
The job opportunities encompass a wide range of roles, including hospitality and catering, offering positions for chefs, waiters and support staff to cater for the influx of attendees, as well as those assisting backstage.
Additionally, there will be employment for security personnel to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the event.
Platforms will also be provided for local artisans and craftspeople to showcase and sell their products, generating income and promoting local talent.
Activation
On Friday, people who will be working on the ground will get to have taste of the cow that will be slaughtered for them to eat as they work on the preparations of the main day as stated by Sifiso Ndlangamandla, the festival Director, when he was speaking at the Mozambuique media activation, explaining the proceedings of the festival from Friday, April 25, 2025 during the preparations of the main day.
The fourth edition of the Makoti Festival in 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark event, promising a vibrant celebration of Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.
The main event is scheduled for April 26, 2025, at the Malkerns Country Club.

Following successful media engagements in Mbombela, South Africa, where Phumla was revealed as a performer during the main event, and in Mozambique, where Lizha James and DJ Supamanmusic were added to the stellar line-up, the Makoti Festival is now set to captivate audiences in Lesotho with a three-day tour commencing on March 28, 2025.
This ambitious outreach initiative underscores the festival’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity and strengthening regional ties.
