MBABANE – Her Royal Highness Princess Sakhizwe has commended the Babukisi Foundation for its commitment to educating and promoting cultural values among the youth.

Babukisi Foundation is a non-profit organisation established with the aim of preserving traditional values and norms for the younger generations through a variety of educational initiatives and cultural programmes. Founded by Thobejane Magagula, the foundation operates with the belief that a strong sense of cultural identity is essential for the development of a cohesive society.

Princess Sakhizwe expressed her appreciation for the foundation after attending the Mjingo High School Culture Day, an event in which the foundation actively participated. She recorded a video message acknowledging the foundation’s efforts, which was subsequently shared on their Facebook page.

Nation

In the video, Princess Sakhizwe stated: “I wish to applaud and thank Babukisi Foundation for supporting the nation with their work of educating about culture as well as the cultural events that Eswatini has. The biggest applause goes to their social media presence. We wish they can continue doing so.”

In response to her commendation, the foundation expressed its gratitude, citing they are grateful for the recognition. “We are grateful to Princess Sakhizwe for supporting and recognising Babukisi Foundation,” they said.  This exchange highlights the importance of collaboration between cultural leaders and organisations dedicated to nurturing the cultural heritage of the country.

The activities initiated by the Babukisi Foundation encompass a wide range of cultural education, including arts and crafts, traditional dance and storytelling. These programmes are designed to engage young people and instil a sense of pride and appreciation for their heritage. With the potential to positively influence attitudes towards cultural preservation, the foundation’s efforts align with a broader movement to maintain and celebrate Eswatini’s rich traditions.

Events like Culture Day at Mjingo High School serve as vital platforms for the youth to connect with their cultural roots. They offer an opportunity for pupils to engage with the arts and witness performances that reflect the diverse heritage of Eswatini. Such events not only enrich the participants’ understanding of their cultur, but also foster a sense of community and belonging.

Generation

Furthermore, the involvement of esteemed figures such as Princess Sakhizwe plays a critical role in elevating the profile of cultural initiatives. Her support not only validates the foundation’s work, but also encourages more young individuals to participate in cultural activities. This kind of endorsement can inspire a new generation to embrace their cultural identity and ensure that these traditions are passed down to future generations.
