PRIZE APPEAL FOR MISS ALBINISM
MBABANE – The directors of Mr and Miss Albinism Africa are advocating for substantial prizes akin to those in other prestigious pageants for this year’s competition.
A recent press statement shared on the Mr and Miss Albinism Africa social media platforms outlines this urgent call for better rewards. Notably, Eswatini will participate in this inaugural edition, with Mr Albinism Nkosinamandla Makhanya and Miss Albinism Mbali Mazibuko proudly representing the kingdom.
“The Mr and Miss Albinism Africa event is set to take place in Harare, Zimbabwe in June 2025, coinciding with the commemoration of International Albinism Awareness Day. At this juncture, we are appealing for meaningful prizes for the winners, similar to those awarded in other pageants. Individuals with albinism deserve recognition and rewards that reflect their talents and efforts,” states the press release.
The directors further urged for collective support from businesses and organisations to help provide these essential prizes. “We are, therefore, calling on companies worldwide to partner with us, demonstrating that individuals with albinism merit significant rewards just as much as their peers,” the statement added.
achievements
The initiative underscores the necessity of recognising and celebrating the achievements and capabilities of individuals with albinism, which have often been overlooked in mainstream society. Leading up to the competition, the pageant aims to create visibility and raise awareness about the challenges faced by people with albinism.
Ten countries will participate in the competition, including Botswana, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Lesotho, Nigeria and Eswatini. The participation of Eswatini in this competition is a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive society.
It provides an opportunity for individuals with albinism to break down barriers and challenge long-standing stereotypes about the condition. Their visibility on such a grand scale is a positive step towards reducing the stigma associated with albinism and inspiring a new generation to embrace diversity.
Furthermore, the pageant aligns with ongoing efforts within Eswatini to promote human rights and equality for all citizens.
commitment
By participating in Mr and Miss Albinism Africa, the nation reinforces its commitment to inclusivity and sends a strong message that all individuals deserve respect and recognition regardless of their skin tone or condition. With the event just around the corner, anticipation is growing for an empowering experience that champions the cause of people with albinism across the continent. The organisers are hopeful that with robust support, the event will achieve great success and establish a legacy for future editions.
