The Fresh Mindz Duo of Nosipho ‘Popo’ and Nkululeko ‘Guni’ Nxumalo seem to have taken entertainment to another level in the country. For them, as they say, It’s not about the wild shows with famous deejays and all, but it’s about making a difference in the lives of Swazi people.

Guni says, "We want to be part of the generation that makes history. We share the same vision with the king of making Swaziland a first world country. We also want to break the belief that women are not good for anything, other than being in the kitchen."

The sisters live with both their parents and younger brother at Bethany in Matsapha. Guni completed school at St Michael’s in 2004 and Popo matriculated at Mananga College in 2007. The two started the entertainment stable together with the help of their equally business minded parents. Style got a chance to talk to the sisters over lunch at Summer Fields Botanical Gardens and this is how the interview went:

STYLE: Why did you guys decide on the Fresh Mindz concept?

GUNI: Basically it was something that we started and later realised that it wouldn’t help only us but other people as well.

POPO: Well, we have a passion for entertainment, so other than anything else, we started this because we love entertainment and we knew that a lot of people would benefit from the work that we do. We want to inspire others to reach their goals. We knew what we wanted and went for it. We hope to touch the lives of every Swazi citizen.

STYLE: Why the name Fresh Mindz?

GUNI: We are fresh, we have fresh ideas, fresh concepts and because of this no other word would suit perfectly other than the word fresh. We do not steal people’s ideas. We sit down and actually think. We do not want to be like any other stable and do the same things over and over again. We want to leave a mark and we always make sure that we use themes.

STYLE: So, what do you guys do besides Fresh Mindz?

GUNI: Well I am a part time student at UNISA. I am studying towards a B. Comm. degree.

POPO: I have put school on hold for now. I am not good at juggling many things at the same time. That is why I do not even have a boyfriend. I am not a routine and pattern kind of person, with events I have my own deadlines and I like being my own boss.

STYLE: What other upcoming projects are you guys working on?

GUNI: We can’t reveal as yet, but we are planning on doing something major. We have a lot in store but it is definitely going to be fun all the way. We have hosted a lot of events, including the Aspire to Inspire talent search competition and the awarding of legends.

STYLE: Who or what is your inspiration?

GUNI: We are inspired by life and the things that happen around us on a daily basis. Our parents are also our greatest inspiration.

POPO: My pastor is one of my greatest inspirations. He actually came up with the Aspire to Inspire theme. He said; "Aspire to Inspire before you Expire!"

STYLE: Can you tell us about your family life?

POPO: We live with our parents and younger brother at Bethany. We are a close knit family and like going to glamorous outings together. Our dad was the first person to bring ‘Dubai’s’ to Swaziland.

STYLE: What is your best memory?

GUNI: It was when my family hosted my 21st birthday bash in Maputo, right on the beach.

POPO: When I received my form three results. I was over the moon.

STYLE: And your worst?

GUNI: I don’t really have a particular one, but I feel bad when people won’t let one succeed or be what God or they want to be in life.

POPO: It was when my friend passed away. She committed suicide.

STYLE: What is your ideal man?

GUNI: Well, I am into Italian every-thing, so automatically, I like Italian guys. I think Antonio Banderas is hot!

POPO: I think a Morris Chestnut look alike would do it for me.

STYLE: Tell us about your relationship?

POPO: Guni is my older sister. She was my role model, until I grew up (laughing). We have a very special relationship. We hangout together all the time and find that we do not have other friends besides ourselves. We love laughing and when I am with her we have so much fun. I look up to her and we do a lot together.

GUNI: My sister is my best friend. We always hangout together. We help each other spiritually and give one another life tips and fashion tips. We love fashion and clothes, but I love accessories the most.

STYLE: Who or what wouldn’t you mind being stuck with on an island?

GUNI: My sister, mother, father and Bible.

POPO: My sister and my phone. I am a big Facebook and Mxit fan.

STYLE: Your dream cars?

POPO: Dream right? A Ferrari or a Bentley.

GUNI: Aston Martin.
