Uti is the man!
After battling it out for a gruelling 91 days, Nigeria’s own, Uti Nwachukwu has become Big Brother Africa’s newest millionaire!
The 91 days are over and on Sunday the winner of the Big Brother All stars was announced, 27-year-old Nigerian born Uti Nwachukwu won with eight country votes against runner-up, Zimbabwe’s Munya’s seven votes.
After fighting off stiff competition from Zimbabwe’s Munya Chidzonga, Uti was announced the winner of a cool US$ 200 000 (about R1.4 million).
There was palpable tension as soon as host IK was beamed onto the House screens to make the announcement.
Professed
Both Uti and Munya, who had earlier professed how nervous they were, sat on the couch, their cigarettes in hand.
Uti stared into one spot while Munya bowed his head and held Uti’s hand.
Munya stared at the ceiling in disbelief for more than two minutes.
He held his heads in his hands and looked like he was holding back a bucket of tears.
As soon as Uti found out he had won, he jumped onto the couch and sang his national anthem.
Munya walked out slowly not believing what had happened.
When interviewed, Munya mentioned how he wanted to make it further than he did last time.
He saluted and did the Diamond Boy sign. As soon as he saw his family, he fell into his mothers arms and burst into tears.
Revolution
This is the second consecutive time that a Nigerian would be winning BBA. It would be re-called that another Nigerian, Kevin, won last year at the Big Brother revolution.
And now Uti, no wrong in that as the best man, already did win.
It would also be recalled that Uti had lost his father mid-way into the show but amid the low point chose to play on, and it sure did pay off in the end.
About ABOUT Uti
Uti Nwachukwu is a Nigerian actor, TV presenter, model and MC from Lagos best known as one of the 12 housemates on the third season of the reality television competition Big Brother Africa, in 2008.
He was the third housemate evicted, on Sunday October 5, 2008. He returned to Big Brother Africa in 2010 as one of the 14 ‘All Stars’ of Season 5, entitled Big Brother All Stars.
Uti, who appeared in a multi-national billboard ad in 2007, holds a two-year diploma in Computer Science and Education from the University of Nigeria.
He previously applied to be on Big Brother Africa but was delayed to the audition because of an exam.
Selected
The one-time bank employee appeared on the Nigerian reality series Next Movie Star, which he finished as the runner-up, before being selected for Big Brother Africa 3.
Listing his mom and dad as his heroes, Uti says the best advice he’s received from a friend was, ‘happiness is a state of mind and it usually begins with a choice.’
A fan of Chelsea Football Club, he dislikes "people going through my stuff, liars, manual labour and arrogant people."
His favourite quote ("Those who dare to fail miserably are the ones who often succeed greatly") echoes his belief in life and he says people describe him as a ‘cocktail of personalities.’
Outgoing and talkative, Uti confesses that he has mood swings sometimes.
Describing Nigerians as happy, confident, smart and fun to be with, Uti says Ofunneka was his favourite housemate on Big Brother Africa 2, not just because she was Nigerian, but because she was smart and held her own in the house.
