Local music wanted in moz
MBABANE - Art promoter and founder of the Matiwane Manana Foundation Khethabahle Mthetwa is appealing to all artists to submit their music to him as soon as possible.
Mthethwa’s invitation is particularly directed to gospel artists, however, he said other musicians would not be turned away.
"I have been asked to collect music DVDs and CDs by one of the biggest promoters in Mozambique," he told the Entertainment Desk.
Assist
He also said the Mozambican businessman wanted to assist local artists to invade the ready market in his country.
Mthethwa said he and the promoter had been in constant contact for quite a while and "through several discussions, we finally agreed to work together to promote artists from both countries."
He said the Mozambican was a highly reputable promoter who was synonymous with big international events.
"He is the one who brought the United Kingdom’s premier reggae outfit UB40 a few years ago," Mthethwa said.
Utilised
"Also, he has a fully-fledged studio in Maputo (the capital) which is ready to be utilised by local artists," he added.
Mthethwa, who did not wish to disclose his partner’s identity, said he (Mozambican) wanted to enlist local artists after sampling what they had to offer. "He needs to know what our artists can do before deciding on whether or not they would fit into his future plans," Mthethwa said, adding that the Mozambican promoter was also interested in recording artists from this country and further forge a working relationship with them.
He said after talks with the Mozambican national, he was convinced that local musicians had a lot to gain from him, and that Moza-mbicans were highly cultural and exposed to a variety of music genres from across the world.
Potential
He noted that Swazis were too pre-occupied with South Africa to recognise the potential which lies in the Mozambican market.
Mthethwa said his own assessment of the Mozambican music industry left him convinced that time for local artists to tap into that market had arrived, adding that Mozambican nationals were ready to embrace Swazi music the same way they did to others. He can be contacted at 605 1501.
