Khalamdumbadumbane at risk of being off air
MBABANE – Popular radio programme ‘Khalamdu-mbadumbane’ runs the risk of being pulled off the airwaves.
Following an inconsistent run since the legendary Jim Gama fell ill and ultimately met his death.
The former Ludzidzini governor was arguably one of the radio station’s most well known personalities and made a formidable team with Bongani S’gcokosiyancinca Dlamini, in their time at the helm of SBIS’s flagship programme.
According to the Director of the Swaziland Information and Broadcasting Service (SBIS), Percy Simelane, the station has been grasping at straws to ensure that the programme is aired consistently.
"It has been very tough for us to keep the programme, which is loved by many, on air. Its run over the past couple of months has been really inconsistent. It has been on and off air, following S’gcoko being transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture. When Gama left following his collapse, we recruited Mthetho, who did a great job. However, with S’gcoko gone, it has definitely been a challenge," Simelane said.
Challenges
S’gcokosiyancinca was transferred to a new post in the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives last year and has since then not given as much time to the programme as he did before.
Simelane, however, assured fans of the programme that the radio station will do everything in its power to sort out the challenges that the programme is faced with to ensure that the public is still educated, entertained and informed.
"It will take time, but we will do everything in our power to ensure that the programme is kept on air. If you ask me whether it is possible, I will say absolutely. Without a doubt. Many people will remember that when the programme was started; Mkhumbi and Anson Dlamini were the hosts and did a great job. When Anson left and Gama took his place, people thought the programme would not be as popular as it had been, but clearly that was not the case. Mkhumbi left and people thought the same thing, but look at how popular the Jim Gama/S’gokosyancinca duo was. We will try our best, but right now it’s tough," Simelane said.
